64S Hybrid Top
5 star review
Title:
Most comfortable mouthpiece I've ever played
After a very insightful consultation with Dr. Dave I chose a 64S Hybrid top with a heavyweight backbore to replace my previous mouthpiece, a Yamaha 7A4 (which is basically a Purviance 4*D4, which I have also played (as well as Bachs, Schilkes, AR Resonance, JetTones, Marcinkiewicz, Reeves, ACB . . .) Adapting to the Wedge was easy, and it gave me the endurance I needed to make it through a challenging orchestral concert, as well as an easier high register, but my tone was still "legit" enough to blend with the other trumpets. The Hybrid material is amazing-- it feels "softer" than brass without any loss of definition to the attack. I am also sensitive to the bite of the inner edge of the cup, and this mouthpiece has the exact balance between rounded and sharp that I've always looked for. Very, very highly recommended! Time to order a flugelhorn piece! -Brad H.

Surprised
I've been a Wedge player for around a decade and bought this piece specifically for piccolo trumpet. It is coupled with a Frost #11 backbore and a Blackburn leadpipe for my Schilke P7-4. Having tried many mouthpieces dating back to the 70s, none of which were bent and angled, I tempered my hopes. I am very pleased with the results...excellent tone, an easier concert high D, and a bit more endurance. -Glenn J.

67D - Sounds beautiful
I waited quite a while after my Dr Dave zoom consultation before ordering a Wedge, and I wish I hadn’t. I’m a pro orchestral trumpet player who has played the same mouthpiece for the last 25 years, I’ve tried many many others but ultimately nothing has compared sound-wise to that one - an old Curry B. That is until last Friday!…when I tried out a Wedge top in my kitchen straight out of the shipping packet. I’m super fussy with mouthpieces and fully expected not to like the Wedge at all, but it’s great. Lovely sound. Clean articulation. And I’ve been switching between using this on my Bb, C, Eb and my normal picc mouthpiece, a Monette on the picc with no problem at all. Thanks so much Wedge people! -Alex C.

66MDV Hybrid Top
5 star review
Title: A great mouthpiece and great service
I already had the brass one piece version of this mouthpiece which I purchased to replace my Vincent Bach 7B mouthpiece. I play in a community “pops” style orchestra and the 66MDV brass one piece mouthpiece has a lot of “zing and projection in all of the registers I play in. I was pleasantly surprised when I paired the Hybrid top with a standard backbone. The mouthpiece was more comfortable on my chops and I did not loose any of the projection or intensity of sound that I enjoyed on the brass mouthpiece. Thank you Dr. Dave and Micaela. -Doug W.

Well what can I say, I previously purchased a 66 MV and I was absolutely delighted but always wondered if the angled rim option would be even better, well guess what, the angled rim was a game changer, my playing was in a different league, the angled rim had a huge impact. The bottom rim made so much more contact and that was the answer.I now can’t put the trumpet down. The 66MS 5 degree angle is just amazing, now I must try the 10 degrees angle. Amazing doctor Dave. -Stephen L.

66MDV Acrylic Top

Title: SUPERB mouthpiece!
I play the 66MV (brass) and 66S (hybrid) tops. They’re truly fabulous mouthpieces! Looking for a mouthpiece with a darker tone for “legit” gigs (symphony, church soloing, etc.), including on the C trumpet, I opted to try the 66MDV. This time, I chose an acrylic top. What a superb mouthpiece this is! The tone I achieve on this piece is just what I was searching for. And, wow, the acrylic material is amazingly comfortable on my chops. This mouthpiece design is a winner. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for that extra cup depth resulting in a darker tone. Bravo, Dr. Dave!! -Stephan G.

Title: Wedge Works!
I ordered a 65MDV mouthpiece top but had to exchange it for something smaller. I typically play something like a Bach 7B. The 64MV was the ideal size for me. I adjusted to the rim shape quickly, but it has taken several weeks to recover range and flexibility. The sound is now fuller, the articulation cleaner and the fluency of sound improved (notes don't drop out on long slurred passages) I am very happy with the MP, but you may have to size down to get your correct diameter. -George W.

Title: Easy Transition
I have been playing on the Wedge 64MV top paired with a Meeuwsen 4 back bore for several weeks. I asked Dr Dave for something with a rim diameter similar to my Warburton 6M but with a slightly deeper, larger volume cup to warm up my sound. We settled on the 64MV. The asymmetrical rim felt just fine from the outset, so I had no difficulty with the “shape”. I’m still getting used to the mouthpiece overall. I have not yet experienced any improvement in range or endurance like others have reported, but my initial objective was to achieve a warmer sound. Hard to tell for sure from behind the horn and I don’t have a good recording set up. I plan to try it with a couple different backbores. Bottom line is that I’m still evaluating the mouthpiece. Customer service was great and I’m happy to recommend trying a Wedge for yourself. -Cameron M.

Title: Hybrid vs Brass Wedge
I've tested the brass RT and hybrid RT cup on the same backbore, and find the hybrid to more comfortable, stays in place on the chops with less pressure than brass, and performs almost indistinguishably from brass. To me, my sound may be a slight shade darker with the hybrid, my I'm producing slightly stronger overtones with the hybrid, so the sound is just as rich, if not richer. -Chris B

Title: finally, a better moustrap
Having played professionally for 35 years, followed by a 25 year hiatus, I began my journey back on the horn with a Heavyweight Yamaha 14b4 and a Yahaha 8310Z . Was intrigued with the Wedge design and ordered one using the comparison table offered. Got the 66MV which was instantly comfortable. 3 1/2 years later, I have progressed nicely on the mouthpiece and marvel at the comfortable shape and accuracy it give me on my horn. I'm using far less pressure in the upper range and endurance is so much better. Dr. Dave has delivered a keeper! -David C

Title: Just what I've been looking for!
I play in a group with someone who plays a Wedge top, and I was fortunate enough to snag one of the promo 3D printed CF 66MV trumpet mouthpieces. The time spent with that promo piece told me I needed to explore the Wedge design a bit more. So far, I have enjoyed playing on the Chuck Findley 66MV Hybrid Top. I have a metal allergy (definitely nickel, possibly even silver), and I play with a "dry set". I have tried different materials in the past, including Delrin and acrylic. When I read about Dr. Dave's development of a Hybrid top, I knew I had to try it. Upon receiving the hybrid top, I immediately noticed the differences provided by the hybrid design. Articulations were cleaner than on an acrylic top, and the sound was more focused. I still had the same mouthpiece contact warmth from a non-metal top, as well as the reduced water accumulation in the cup. I used to attribute the swelling of my chops at the later stages of a big band gig to simple "that's what your chops do when you play for too long", but so far I haven't experienced the same type of swelling... even after playing 3 pretty demanding big band sets. I'm already planning my purchase of a 66FLC Hybrid Flugelhorn Top and a small morse shank. -Dennis M

Title: Transformative design
I’ve been through now two fairly major embouchure injuries - an overuse muscle tear and a chipped front tooth. The wedge mouthpieces are the only things that were able to get me playing professionally again. The design alleviates all pressure points and encourages proper aperture formation. After a few days, or even hours, the rim feels incredibly natural and facilitates better range and articulations. -Kenny P

Title: Superb!
I've been playing on Wedge Pierobon series mouthpieces for the last ten years (Pierobon C, 25 throat with ML backbore for Bb, MLL for C/Eb). These are the most comfortable mouthpieces I've ever used, with all the advantages claimed by Dr Dave, and the added benefit of the day after a big blow feeling much better than it ever did when I played a conventional mouthpiece. The design of this mouthpiece encourages better technique and has helped me to use less pressure and generally improve my playing. I recently changed to a hybrid top which for me is even better than the brass version - it has the ideal amount of grip versus slip and never feels cold which makes it great for cold weather, quick instrument changes, and picking up to demonstrate when teaching. I've found the hybrid has given me better range (easier high and low) and stamina, and clearer/easier production. I will be changing my other mouthpieces from brass to hybrid soon! -Tom S

Title: 63 Lead V Hybrid Top
This is an incredible mouthpiece top. After some 50 years of playing the trumpet as a professional musician, I finally realized that much of the swelling to my chops was the result of an allergic reaction from the silver plating on my mouthpiece rim. The older all plastic cup/rim mouthpiece I purchased from Dr. Dave, while solving the allergic reaction issue, created other issues ie. sound, slotting and tonal response. The 63 Lead V Hybrid Top is a total game changer. Much less swelling, shorter warm ups, more accuracy, greater tonal response and an incredibly centered sound. Thank you Dr. Dave. You have added additional 10 to 15 years due to your innovative designs to my playing life! -Ed F

Title: A mouthpiece shape that makes sense
The Wedge team were very helpful with selection. Shipping to Australia took longer than usual due to pandemics, natural disasters etc, but I was assured that the money back trial period would only begin when I received the MP. Not that it mattered, I'm keeping it! It is WAY more comfortable than a regular MP. I must have different shaped teeth than most because it really works for me rotated 90deg. I've seen another reviewer like this. I find it supports my corners making additional range easier. Less fatigue too. I have a number of regular MPs of various brands and they all feel like the pressure is concentrated unevenly on my EMB. Not so with the wedge. I bought the multi-piece system, so next purchase is a cornet backbore so I can use the same MP on cornet. -Mike S

I have been trying the 66MS top with 10º angle for some time now and it works very good for me! Also 66M top and the flugel/cornet-top 66FLC with the 10º angle makes a huge different for my playing. Title: Truly miraculous
Let me preface this by saying that I have been playing trumpet for close to 70 years and bought completely into the belief that there is no quick fix,no magic pill, and no shortcuts to the continuing improvement of range, flexibility, sound pallette and embouchure development, but only constant daily practice and guidance by a qualified teacher. This has allowed me a musical career and opportunities to work with some of the jazz greats. But recently, I had hit a wall in my development that I could not seem to overcome no matter how much I practiced nor who I studied with.To tell the truth I blamed it on age. On a whim I decided to try a wedge mouthpiece and after a discussion with Dave decided on the 66RT. I felt immediately comfortable with this mouthpiece with little to no adjustment time and went about my daily practice routine. After several weeks of playing I decided to try the 65RT and found that the inner diameter of the 65 better fit my needs. Do yourselves a favor. Try these mouthpieces. They freed up the corners of my embouchure to work properly, reduced my tendency for too much arm pressure , opened my sound pallette , and helped me to improve my range and flexibility noticeably. I have been told that only a small percentage of those who try the wedge respond this dramatically and I am overjoyed to be one of them! -David G

Title: A rotary mouthpiece that works!
Back to work in the symphony again and our workload in the trumpet section becomes very rotary valve intense. Think Mozart, Beethoven, J Strauss, Brahms et al... I have always used a Breslmair G-2, original specs/one piece. Works well with my olde school Gänter rotaries. Recently upgraded to a modern G-2 with the "L" back bore, everything was working great, nobody gets hurt on a G-2. Stated in a whisper, "except, of this annoying double buzz that happens every time I play a 3rd space C...." I was referred to a 665RT, all my other m'pieces are 67s. Wow! All of the fun sound and response qualities I like on my Breslmair, except there is no unwelcome double buzz on mid-C. Love it, my horns love it. I use it with the ML backbore, I might experiment with a MLL or L back bore. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED if rotary is your scene. -John W

Title: Very interesting Delrin mouthpieces
Hello, I usually play trumpet with a 67MDV brass mouthpiece. Thinking of playing in winter and outside, I bought a 67MDV Delrin top. It really is a very good option to play in cold weather. But I have discovered other good qualities of this Delrin material that Wedge Mouthpieces also manufactures: the vibration of the lips is easier, with which I have more resistance and improves my attack in the treble range. Another good important quality is that with this material my warm-up time has been significantly reduced. Each mouthpiece produces a different sound and the delrin mouthpiece 67MDV sounds different than the brass moutpiece 67MDV. Which is better? It is a subjective question, what is clear is that now with the two tops I have two alternatives in terms of sound. In my opinion the Delrin mouthpiece is a highly recommended alternative. Greetings from Barcelona -Josep P

My bottom teeth are crossed and this creates a very sharp edge. The pressure of the mouthpiece was always cutting my bottom lip. Dr. Dave came with a great solution to my problem with a small recess at the rim. Basically the recess is supposed to slopes smoothly away at the critical point. Like it slopes away at the sides, reducing the contact and pressure. Since I got my custom rim it's extremely enjoyable to play the trumpet! Thank you very much! -Sava

Title: 62s working great for me!
I have experienced a shift in mt teeth that resulted in my top front tooth overlapping the tooth to the right of it. The same shift has happened on the bottom teeth in the same area. This shift resulted in some pain and soreness when playing. I decided to give the Wedge atry and see if it would remedy this situation and it has! I found the transition to be very easy and, in addition to solving the soreness issue, it has give me better flexibility and slightly easier access to the extreme upper register (for me that's above high D). Title: Wedged for Life!
The 65MV is my third Top.. I started on the 68MV ( I had this idea that bigger mps were better) First of all for those reading this who don't know already - once you have played a Wedge you won't go back - why would you? Secondly - what is great about Dr Dave is he will give you straight answers and he's not afraid to nail his colours to the mast. The focus at Wedge is not to sell you something - rather to ensure you feel part of a win win partnership. re the 65MV I prefer it to the 665MV - the fit feels better and certainly not too small. 4 months ago I started with BE (Balanced Embouchure) and with its focus on the lips the BE philosophy does appear to favour a smaller mp set. Maybe a couple of years form now I will go to a &¤ size but I will be sure to ask Dr Dave for his opinion first! PS Great service by the way.. MP was posted the day I bought it and it took 4 weeks door to Finnish door. -Steve L

Title: Easy to play, super clear sound
I ordered the MV top with a M back bore and found that the ML worked really well on my C and B flat trumpets. I'd say the sound was effortlessly "popping". Big intervals were reduced, agility increased - especially lip slurring and trills. I applied the MV top with the M back bore to my D and E flat trumpets with outstanding success. I don't have to compress my airstream so hard on the smaller horns. Slower air with this set up made for more sound. A great choice for a wide variety of sounds, contemporary and historic. -John W

Title: As good as the 67MD, only less work!
Once again, a couple of awkward days settling in to this; after that it was great. I ordered an M back bore along with this top and eventually moved to the ML back bore. Big difference for my set up. The ML back bore allowed me to explore all the nice colors that the MDV invites. Brilliant and "creamy" at the same time. I had to learn to relax a bit more on this top. It will light up fast and you don't have to use such an assertive tongue position. I would say that this top would be my ideal principal trumpet set up, or a great tool for solo repertoire. Excellent all around mouthpiece top. -John W

Title: Chuck Finley 66MV
I was the principal trumpet player for a British military band for 22 years. I survived that 22 years due to my sound, style and technique but always suffered with very poor stamina and my range suffered due to my poor endurance. I’ve spent painstaking years trying to resolve my embouchure issues, which I’m confident is due to the curvature of my teeth and my underbite, as a result when using a regular mouthpiece the rim cuts into my lip at 2 o’clock and 10 o’clock, cutting off the blood supply causing my issues. This mouthpiece as resolved all my issues, I never tire and my range is so much better, before I couldn’t guarantee a top C,I can now guarantee a double G. Thanks so much Dr Dave this mouthpiece as changed my life and I never enjoyed playing the trumpet more. -Stephen L.

Title: The Wedge Delivers
Excellent mouthpiece top! It's extremely comfortable to play on and has done wonders for my endurance and range (been playing this mouthpiece daily for over a year now). I feel I can get a much richer sound on this mouthpiece than with traditional mouthpieces as well. I bought this specific top as a replacement for the Bach 3C I have used most of my playing career and as my first Wedge mouthpiece as it is the most similar to the Bach 3C. I highly recommend giving this top a try if you're new to playing on Wedge mouthpieces and have a lot of familiarity with playing on the Bach 3C, since it will give you a more direct comparison between playing on the Wedge vs a traditional trumpet mouthpiece. - Joshua M.

Title: Wow! Nice product
After an initial awkward phase of a couple of days, I started really relax in to this design. Soon I was selecting tone colors with impunity. I can hardly wait to get this mouthpiece in to my work in the San Diego Symphony and Opera. Brilliant yet full sound. I will be exploring other tops and back bores as soon as I can swing it financially. I highly recommend the Wedge 67MD with a ML backbore! Works as well on my Yamaha C as it does on my Bach B flat. I am discovering a new range of loud and soft dynamic ranges, coupled with accuracy and endurance. - John W.

So far I really like it. My horn sits in a cold room and I don’t have to warm the mouthpiece up every time I play. Plays just like the silver version of the same top I have have  but feel a bit “softer” on the lips. Sound is slightly more mellow but very similar.

Title: Benefit surprise
Because of Covid I have yet to try my new mouthpiece in my amateur big bands where I play lead trumpet. However I noticed a couple things practicing. At first I seemed to feel muscle fatigue at my left and right corners. (More work needed to keep the seal tight?) But also my upper range (G, A above high C, even double C) can be noticeably louder. (More amplitude of motion available for lip vibration??) My double C has always been a thin squeak not suitable for actual use. Not sure it is all the way there but the help with G and A should be beneficial. -Randy S

Title: Great mouthpiece
Wasn't at all displeased with my existing mouthpice (Schilke 15B4), but really due to boredom with no gigs during the covid lockdown thought I would play around and try a wedge. I really only went for the 14A4a because it was somewhere close to what I used and it was discounted - and the result. Really surprised and pleased. It initially felt a little on the small side but I persevered and it grew on me to the extent that now gigs are coming up again I am using this mouthpiece to play them. I'm not convinced that it has added to my range - I don't think any mouthpiece change can do that to a significant extent - but it feels more comfortable the more I play it, and I think it sounds great. No problems changing back to my old mouthpieces, but why should I? Just need to place an order for a spare one. -Peter L

Title: Comfortable from Day 1
My overall experience has been very positive. I was pleasantly surprised at how comfortable the Wedge 63S felt the first time I tried it. I was also surprised that it looks more like a traditional mouthpiece than I thought it would. My first noticeable improvement is in the lower register. The notes sound fuller and speak easier. Going into the upper register is easier also. .Articulation is crisp. The 63S feels a little bigger than my current mouthpiece of comparable size. I would describe the S cup as a "roomy" shallow. In using it on my Bb piccolo trumpet I am pleased with the fuller sound that I get. It does not feel or sound stuffy especially with the lowest notes. However, I just ordered the 62ES to try with the piccolo which would be a closer diameter to what I play now. I feel certain that I will keep at least one of these Wedge mouthpieces and possibly both, using one for Bb trumpet and other for piccolo. Customer service has been great and the 90-day trial period is what convinced me to place on order. -Debra M

Title: reflections after 1 month trial
My overall experience with the wedge 66MV has been positive. Having played traditional mouthpieces for over 40 years, going to the Wedge was a challenge at first. I did notice improved range, flexibility and intonation almost immediately, however it took several weeks before I could get a sense of focus - the feeling that I could lock in the center of a note. It also took a few weeks to for the sound to develop. It was rather airy at first, with air escaping the corners. However, that got better daily and although the 66MV is a bit smaller than what I was playing on, the sound is darker, smoother and I like it. I would like to try some different sizes before my final decision. -Karl M

Title: More resonance in the sound’s core
I had put down my trumpet for 25 years or so, but have picked it back up in retirement. My trumpet teacher has said that he hears a better resonance in the sound core, that it ‘rings’. He’s noticed that there was an upgrade in my tone quality and I seemed more natural and my playing seemed easier. As for myself, I was hoping for a magical boost in my endurance and range. I am increasing in both, but I don’t know if that is more because of the mouthpiece or the practice I am doing and the instruction I’m receiving. Regardless, I plan on continuing with the wedge and will probably try additional sizes. -Edward B

This is my 2nd Wedge mouthpiece. Really like the results with the 66mv but I also have occasion to need a brighter sound. The 66m fills that bill. I’m glad I found this system. I am 84 years old, a comeback player since 2016 and struggled with a variety of mouthpiece brands and sizes but endurance and range remained a problem. Then a friend recommended the Wedge and everything changed. First of all, it was the most comfortable mp I have ever played. There was an immediate change in my endurance ( from a tough 60 minutes to a much easier 90 minutes ). Everything just started to work better. I was clear on the mouthpiece I wanted and Dave was just as clear that in his humble opinion it was the wrong choice for what I wanted to achieve on the trumpet. There's no question the Wedge is innovative but when the people behind it show this kind of integrity it made choosing The Wedge an easy decision. Title: 68MDV Trumpet Top and Standard Backbore
I've been using my new mouthpiece for just over three weeks now, and I'm very, very pleased. I was playing on a Bach 1.25C. Straight away I like the comfort of the Wedge, and felt I had better endurance and sound. Although I was happy playing on it pretty much straight off, I think it's taken me 2-3 weeks for it to feel natural on the chops, but I feel it's really settling in now;I think the Wedge design is helping me to use the corners much more effectively, and the upper register is starting to feel much more secure. A slight caveat is that, with coronavirus lockdown, I'm only playing it at home, so I won't really know how it sounds in a big space and with other people until that changes, whenever that might be! Overall though, I'm delighted and I think it's highly likely I will be ordering some additional tops and backbores in due course. Many thanks! -David J.K.

This is Wedge's rough equivalent to a Bach 5C. But the unique shape of Wedge's rim makes it work far better for me than a conventional mouthpiece. Adding to the comfort on my chops is the 5 degree angle (instead of bending the mouthpiece), and the "Gabriel" shape of the rim, which for me fits better than the standard Wedge rim. With a 25 throat that has just enough resistance for me, not too much. Title: 65S Trumpet Top With 25 Throat
I really like the "S" cups for my small horns (piccolo trumpet and F/G trumpet). I bought this in a 25 throat (already have a 27 as my go-to on piccolo) primarily for use on the F/G and occasional use on a Eb/D for higher range solos. The problem I had using a 27 throat mouthpiece on the F/G was the sound was too nasally. The 25 throat opens up the sound, with just a touch of lost range, which I hope to solve by playing around with backbores. -Christina G

Title: 62LV and 62S Gen II Tops
I have been using Wedge MPs for a long time. Years ago Dave made me a custom rim that we called a 6-13 DCG. I had it in med shallow, medium, and med deep cups. Recently I was trying to tweak my endurance a bit and wanted to try a slightly smaller and/or shallower cup but using the Gen II rim. Dave looked good the old drawings and said a 64 Gen II rim was closest to what I had been using so he sent me a 64 LV. It was too shallow for me. I then tried the LV cup on my old 6-13 rim and the cup was still too shallow for me. However, I gave it to a friend who loves it and it has become his lead MP. Next I tried a 62 LV on the Gen II and it was still to shallow for me even in the smaller size. I then called Dave and he said try the 62S on the Gen II. It is perfect! I just have too much lip intrusion to use ES and LV cups, but the 62S worked well. I don't bottom out even after playing a couple hours, my sound is full and I can get above DHC on it. My articulations are clean as well. The that end I have just ordered med and med deep cups to go along with the shallow on this 62 Gen II rim. These are in acrylic and have #25 throats. I will keep using the 62S with a Warburton KT* backbore, and will use the deeper cups with whatever backbore works best. I will use the deepest cup on my C trumpet and the med cup on my picc. I may also use them on my Bb when I am not playing lead. -Blaine P

Title: Increased endurance, feels good, but...
Overall, I can go to this mouthpiece when I've worn myself out with one of my others. I like the warm feeling of the plastic when I start playing and it is essential when I'm playing Taps outside when it is cold (I don't stick to the mouthpiece like with metal). I do find there is some loss of brightness in my tone when I plan and the extra stickiness gets annoying at times and can limit my use for a long playing session. My plan is to get an metal top and compare that to the other mouthpieces I have; sort of a more "apples to apples" comparison. -Eric S

Title: 64ES Top 27 Throat
I bought this mouthpiece to help me get a little more range on the piccolo (I only can get to a high F and pretty squeeky at that using my 65S with aggressive shallow backbore). Honestly, the ES ended up being too shallow for me, I would lose the buzz after 5 minutes....I'm sure it was an issue with my embouchure. Guess you need to have better chops than mine to use this type of mouthpiece. But the best part about working with Wedge is instead of having an orphan mouthpiece in a drawer was that I was given substantial credit towards another less shallow piece. I'm definately a Wedge guy, and if they ever want to sponsor a crappy player, I'm in...LOL. -John G.

Tried both 10 degrees and 5 degree angled rim. Both can reduce the pressure on the top lip. 5 degree is so easy to used to, but i love 10 degree more. It reduce much more pressure on my lips, giving me more flexibility and open tone. -Ka Y.

Title: 67D is awesome!
I've been playing this top for a couple months, absolutely love it for both my C and Bb trumpets, especially my C. It gives my chops a little extra room over the 67MDV; a great match if you play with a little more lip intrusion in the mouthpiece. No problems with pitch, articulations, sound etc., all excellent. -Rocky M.

Title: Untitled
My history with Wedge is at least 6 years.
I had not played a trumpet in more than 20 years, but picked up my horn on a lark and got hooked again in about 2013. . . wanted to switch to cornet for a mellower sound, but had no cornet mouthpieces; tried about a hundred from a friend in town, but also researched online through Internet Searches, saw the Wedge mentioned, checked you out, was impressed by the intentional medical thought that went into the design, so tried a Wedge cornet mouthpiece. I’m a pharmacologist, after all, so things like blood flow, innervation of musculature, etc., mean something to me.
I was not a “responder” but was persistent, and after a few weeks, decided the Wedge merited a long-term trial.
After a few months playing exclusively on the Wedge, I could still play on conventional Bach mouthpieces, but I disliked like the restrictive feel. I’ve never looked back; I use Wedges exclusively; had a full complement of cornet and trumpet mouthpieces in Bach 3 (66) rim size, but recently (6 or 8 months ago) downsized to a 64 rim size and sold my quiver of B3/66 mouthpieces to a friend . . . now he and his wife, both trumpeters, are Wedge devotees.
I’ve bought all my horns second hand; if you check my order history, I think you’ll see why I’m likely correct when I say I’ve spent as much on Wedge mouthpieces as on horns . . . because it’s true . . . the mouthpiece(s) are more important than the resonating chamber.
Because I switched to the Wedge during my re-introduction to trumpet/cornet playing, it is tough for me to say that the Wedge improved my sound, range, endurance, etc., but there is something I can absolutely attest to, and I think it makes perfect sense in light of the design of the Wedge rim. No matter how long I practice or perform on any give day, and regardless of how fatigued I may become, my chops are NEVER sore, ever. That was definitely NOT the case when I played on conventional mouthpieces, regardless of rim design or cup depth. If I over-did it, I paid the price the next day or so in sore chops. Since switching to Wedges, I may be tired the day following a day of excessive playing, but the chops are NEVER sore. That’s huge . . . that means I’m exercising the muscles without injury. I’m not restricting blood flow to the embouchure or pinching nerves. My endurance increases linearly with my practice schedule and I never have to rest to repair an injury. I may need to practice lightly some days to give myself some rest, but I NEVER need to lay off to let sore chops heal. -Best regards, Chris

Title: Not for me.
I ordered a Wedge rim, hoping to help my endurance and range after 8 to 10 years off of playing. My set up just didn’t seem to work with this rim. After a day of frustration trying to make it work, I knew it wasn’t for me. I sent a message to return the rim and was instructed in how to return the rim. It is true what Wedge says. After receiving the rim back, they refunded 100% of my money. Can’t ask for a better return policy. The product was well made and the company very honest, but I was sorry it didn’t work for me. -Douglas S.

Title: Game changer
I bought the 64S top to try as a commercial piece and I absolutely love it. The response and feel make it ideal for the longer gigs I do (sometimes 4-5 hours of playing!). There was definitely an adjustment period of a few days, but now it feels infinitely better than my old (non-Wedge) mouthpiece. I like this piece so much that I even put a cornet backbore on it and use it in my brass band (I play soprano cornet). It fits so many situations! Total game changer for me! -Ryan M.

-Randy S

66MDV Hybrid.
I live in England. The half hour ‘zoom’ conversation with Dr Dave was seamless and I bought the mp he recommended. ( I wanted to increase confidence with high range and extend endurance). I used the mo for a week- rehearsing at home and with four different ensembles. It was comfortable, probably eased effort above the stave a little, but I coukd discern no difference in endurance. Unfortunately I didn’t like sound I produced… rather dull … lacking in ‘sparkle’. After a week I asked to return the mp for a refund. The company didn’t hesitate in giving me the necessary postage details and the item has been posted back to Canada. I await a refund ( it’s only been a few days so I’m not expecting anything yet). British customs have refunded what I paid to import. So… as long as I get a full refund I shall think it a worthwhile experience… but that party no didn’t suit me. I can’t honestly answer the Yes or No question about whether I would recommend the product. -Stephen W.

Title: Comfort, playability, increased range and endurance
I’ve been a fan of “the wedge” design for some time now. I had a natural wedge in my dental structure that has flattened out as I got older. So putting the wedge on the mouthpiece side of my embouchure made sense to me. And it works. Now, with the new hybrid top, I have a bit more comfort without losing the playability of a solid brass piece. And adding a 5 degree offset has taken a bit of pressure off of my top teeth and balanced things out for me. I’d recommend the wedge design to anybody. But especially to older players whose tooth structure has changed over the years. -CC

Are used the new 67 MDV brass one piece trumpet mouthpiece right out of the box, no break in period, At a brass band rehearsal, in which I play first/solo chair. It was quite comfortable, and I have continued to use it ever since. It replaced a Curry 1 1/2 C mouthpiece which I broke in approximately two months previously. The tone is roughly the same, and my range (which tops out at E - occasional F above high C) is unchanged. I use this mouthpiece in brass band, symphony orchestra, and jazz band, in which I play second (solo) part. On the whole, I like it very much, and I seem to be beaten up much less by rehearsals and performances, important for an old retired guy.

Title: Just what the doctor ordered
It was 2017 and I hadn't played or practiced consistently in MANY years, but I was able to finally carve out some time and practice daily. After almost a year I was not satisfied with my progress. I'd seen Dr. Dave and Wedge on Facebook, so I sent Dr. Dave an email. I began my renewed trumpet journey in 2018 with a 65M mouthpiece that replaced my Bach 7C. I transitioned to a 65S in January 2022 resulting from another email dialog with Dr Dave. I was satisfied but still wanted more range and better endurance. My situation after a year plus on the 65S was that I was playing the 1st trumpet part for our municipal band. I am fortunate to share the part with an outstanding professional who selflessly offers hints and tips. I was confident with A's and B flats above the staff for the duration of our weekly 2 hour rehearsals and our twelve or so performances during our season. B natural not so much and high C's and above were just not reliable. Dr. Dave recommended the 64LV hybrid and I've been using it for about a month. It took a while to get used to the lighter weight of the hybrid; the center of gravity on the trumpet changed a wee bit. After a month, I alternate using the 65S and 64LV depending on the piece. I have a feeling I will go to the 64LV almost exclusively before too long. Everything in our band's repertoire with demands above the staff is noticeably easier and my endurance is improving. I'm finding the 64LV works fairly well for me in the lower register, too. After a month I'm still adjusting to the slightly different feel and it's similar to my transition from the 65M to the 65S. The most significant transition is overshooting some attacks above the staff because I'm overblowing; I'm working harder than I need to! I'm happy to work on this. The 64LV which is my first hybrid experience is an unqualified success for me. -Peter J W.

Title: 67 MDV Hybride One Piece
Before I get the 67 MDV I used the Monette B4 S3, Yamaha 16C4 and Bach 1.1/2C. The 67 MDV size match perfekt to my old mouthpieces. There was no significant challenge to jump to this much more ergonomic Wedge piece. Sound (deep/mid/high) is great. Intonation much better. My endurance to play the horn improved also. I use the mouthpiece as an Allrounder over all music styles and music groups, as well as soloist. For higher range purpose (Lead Trumpet or Piccolo purpose) in use the 65 MDV Hybrid one Piece, without any issue to chance the Mouthpieces in both directions. I recently tried a hybrid version of my brass Wedge RT cup, and a new MDV hybrid one-piece Wedge, the latter intended to provide an option that is slightly shallower than the RT and easier in the high range. Bottom line - the hybrids are more comfortable than brass and stay in place on the chops with less pressure. The hybrids performs so similarly to brass that I can’t see a reason to use brass any longer. The hybrid may be a shade darker, but a sonic meter shows I’m actually producing overtones slightly better with the hybrids. Great development!! -Chris B

Title: Absolutely amazing
This mouthpiece does exactly what it says it’s going to do! At first I thought “oh no, it doesn’t work, I’ve been scammed!!” But I gave it time and after just about 2 weeks of playing with it I could already feel and hear a noticeable difference in my playing. With training my endurance is now around 3x what it used to be and my range has improved a LOT! Remember however, that practice makes perfect and this mouthpiece won’t make you better overnight. But it definitely helps and if you’re ready to take your trumpet playing to the next level, I highly recommend this mouthpiece! Great job wedge!! -Benjamin F

Title: Yes, it works.
I have waited for a few months before reviewing my new Pierobon with 5 degrees rim angle because I needed to be sure. It took me one month do adapt because the shape and angle were kind of weird, compared to any other mouthpiece I've had before. For my rabbit teeth it feels much more comfortable than a round mouthpiece and for the way my mouth closes I think I should have asked the doctor a 10 degrees rim, even if 5 work perfectly already. The range, compared to my Artisan, increased of a few semitones. Fatigue drastically decreased. Comfort: feels natural. Proof was tonight, once I could not play anymore with the Artisan (just experimenting), I switched to my Wedge and I continued with my exercises (Hayden 2nd movement). So yes, it works for me. Title: Give it a try. You may be pleasantly surprised.
This is the best mouthpiece I have ever bought. Chuck Findley 66MV. I have never been so confident in the upper range. The fear has really evaporated. The tone quality is the best I've ever had for a mouthpiece this shallow. I have tried Bach mouthpieces up and down the range from deep to shallow, from small diameter to large, every combination I could think of, only to land on a Bach 7B as best for concert band, and never finding a solution for my Salsa band. For Salsa I just relied on lots of fragile discipline in order to avoid killing my lips for 3/4 days and I often failed. But now with this mouthpiece the damage/pain on my lips is and order of magnitude less. I can play again the next day. Also amount of breathe support I used to use for high notes left me with lower abdominal/testicular injuries, like when doing very deep heaven squats. Those days are gone now. I have gained one additional chromatic step, at the top, not alot, but knowing that I won't be injured is a huge relief. The tone quality is so good that I might even try one step shallower, in hopes of gaining one more chromatic step at the top of my range. That an not getting injured would be effectively "miraculous" in my opinion. I did not believe. I took a chance. It worked for me. -Alex R

Title: Saved my playing
Dr. Dave was very helpful in selecting a mouthpiece. I have an old lip injury that has worsened over time and recently rendered me virtually unable to play trumpet. I just about gave up after playing for over 30 adult years. I hoped the Wedge Mpc would take pressure off that spot, slightly off center, and it did exactly that. I’m now able to practice every day. My endurance and range came right back. Range is actually better. This Mpc really does help your corners properly support the embouchure. Playing is fun again. -Brian T

I wasn't going to write a review because my experience is similar to those who have also written 5 star reviews. That mindset changed when I received my second batch of Wedge mouthpieces. I have always struggled with endurance and just keeping my embouchure together, no matter how much Caruso, Irons, Collins, Arban, etc. that I practiced. Title: Bright sound, good performance in lower register
Very good interaction with Dr. Dave in discussions about mouthpiece selection. His questions and advice were spot on. For the price, I had expected a little higher overall finish on the mouthpiece - although the rim and inside of the cup are polished and bright, much of the outside of the mouthpiece retains milling marks. That said, quality of the silver plating is excellent. The playing experience is good, I have felt less desire to use pressure throughout my range. The sound is very bright, even 'edgy'. I'm not sure if I like it or not. With ensemble playing still off limits in my town, I haven't had the chance to ask band-mates what they think of the sound. One slightly unexpected benefit is a little more freedom and flexibility below the staff, and maybe more projection in that register too. -Orvil D

Title: A significant development in the history of mouthpiece design.
I am thrilled with my new Wedge trumpet mouthpiece. The oval shape design really works for me. I can actually feel my lips vibrating at the corners and this resonance has given me a more open sound. My range has improved considerably, I am delighted to be hitting a high C which I could never attain on my Bach 3C. I struggled to buzz all previous mouthpieces but with the Wedge it is so easy and natural. The Wedge is very comfortable, I adjusted to it very quickly indeed. When I put my Bach 3C on after a few weeks of playing the Wedge it all felt constrained and stuffy. I knew then that I was a convert. My only regret is that I didn’t discover the Wedge years ago. I shall be looking for a Wedge for my Flugelhorn very soon. Well done Dr. Dave, I salute you. -Paul H

I used to play trumpet every day in high school and college, but I haven’t played consistently for the last 4 years. I picked up my trumpet again recently and was re-learning how to play for about 2 months before I got the wedge in the mail. So it’s safe to say I’m playing at a beginner/intermediate level. The first time I tried my wedge it felt like I forgot how to play trumpet. It took 3 full practice sessions to re-re-learn things, but it was worth it! Higher notes began popping out easier. What was really cool was mid-range notes that I would almost always crack on my old mouthpiece came out perfect every time! It does take an adjustment, but it is certainly worth it! -Matthew S

Title: Review of Trumpet Wedge 665MV (Bach 3C replacement)
I received my Wedge 665MV within the estimated 7-10 day turn around from when I ordered it. I put this to use right away as I was joining my sons high school band in a combined youth/adult band ensemble for their spring concert. We have twice a week practice for 3 hours after school. I am a novice trumpet player that enjoys playing in community band when I have the opportunity. I have noticed a big change in how long I can play and it feels like I have a larger range now as well. Hitting high notes is not such a strain. (In fact there are times I overshoot my target) Prior to having this Wedge mouthpiece, I would not have made it half way through the above 3 hour practice session before my lip was gone. Now I have no problem making it all the way though and my lip is still in good shape. So overall I am very pleased with my purchase and would recommend this to anyone else. I may be back to buy a Wedge for my son as well. He sits first chair in his high school band program as a sophomore. -Travis G

Title: 63MV Trumpet One Piece Brass Mouthpiece
I would like to say my recent wedge mouthpiece purchase is nothing but an extremely positive experience. This is my second order this year and my decision to choose the 63MV this time was supported and advised by Dr Dave following a discussion about issues I have been experiencing. My journey to find a mouthpiece which is comfortable, forgiving, and supports me better in the higher range has been a long road over the last three years. I firmly believe you need the right fitting mouthpiece to support your development and a good teacher. The concept Wedge has regarding their lifetime guarantee is excellent; it gives you endless opportunities to find a suitable solution to work with. My lips are thin and tire very quickly. The initial signs I am experiencing with my new mouthpiece are very encouraging to be honest the best I’ve had to date. The quality of sound has improved, I have gained stamina and I don’t seem to be splitting as many notes in the upper register which in turn is helping my confidence and sound quality. Overall I am extremely happy and would encourage anyone who was like myself searching for a mouthpiece and advice to assist their development you cannot fail investing in a wedge. -Andrew D

Title: Great sound and support in full range
Been using my 66M mouthpiece for about two weeks, so far, so good... I play with a Stomvi 3C (witch is pretty close to a 1 1/2 Bach) for classical and I needed an all-round mouthpiece for jazz and pop that could help me to deal with fatigue and soarness in long gigs... I find my Wedge very comfortable, with good support in full range. I'd say that it's not a dark mouthpiece per se, actually, it can get pretty bright in upper register. It has a very focused sound, with good intonation, and it's quite easy to work flexibility with it. I'd say that people with great air support or with a tendency to overblow could benefit for a larger size or a bigger throat size (mine has a #27). Last but not least, I live in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Received my mouthpiece in pretty short time with a careful shipping. -Alejo P

Title: Play forever with this mouthpiece.
Trumpet playing is hard. Through my entire trumpet journey, I've felt limited by the physical aspects of playing. Articulation, limited. Range, limited. Intervals, limited. Endurance, limited. The only part of my physical playing that was where I wanted it to be was tone. In the past, I'd never really gone on a mouthpiece journey, using my trusty Bach 5A for every style, setting, and every horn (C, Bb, Eb/D, Picc). I let the trumpet go for a couple decades and have been getting interested in playing again and decided to try a Wedge after the many, many Ads that were targeted to me. I used the comparison charts to select the 66RT. The mouthpiece worked pretty well for me initially. It felt a little weird, and my tone got a little brighter than I was used to with my 5A. But wow, the response. I've always struggled starting passages cleanly. Not so with the Wedge. Playing Charlier #2, the initial F just speaks clearly and there was none of the "bounce down" as I descended the F, Db, C, Bb, F, Ab, Gb, F motif that had previously plagued me. Awesome! I tried Charlier #1 and was shocked at how easy articulation felt and maybe more shocked when the large intervals just seemed to fall into place. I initially wasn't completely sold on the mouthpiece because my sound did get a little brighter, but it made me really think about my own perceptions of tone. For example, 25 years ago I'd stopped playing Bb in wind ensemble, and orchestra because the C was giving me the sound I wanted, and I actually blended better with the other trumpets who were usually playing Bb. Was I playing too dark? Maybe? As I continue playing, I'm getting more accustomed to the sound I'm producing and starting to feel comfortable with the tone. The Wedge is certainly providing a characteristic trumpet tone that I'm sure will blend just fine in any setting. I've been playing the Wedge almost exclusively for the past 3 months and the more I play it, the more I love it. It still feels a little strange, but nothing like it used to. Usable range has increased about a major second from when I was "in my prime" both at the high end and the low end. If I count squeaks, range has increased dramatically. I still struggle with articulation, but it's so much easier and clearer with the Wedge. Flexibility is dramatically improved as well, but the one area that has really sold me on the Wedge is endurance. Long and loud passages have nowhere near the pain and struggle that they used to have. But what's really surprised me is that in a normal playing session with normal rests, I feel like I can play forever. Did you know your arms can wear out before your chops do? I just learned that a couple weekends ago. The 66RT works exceptionally well on the Bb and C trumpets (piston valves), and is OK (still better than the 5A) on the Eb/D. I'm guessing I'd be happier with a 66M or something like that for the smaller horns and picc, but that's an experiment for another day. Thank you Dr. Dave for combining your love of trumpet playing and your knowledge of the human body to design what's really been a game changer of a mouthpiece for me. -Dan H

I decided to try Dr. Dave’s wedge to see if it would improve my endurance, flexibility and range. I wasn’t sure it would make a difference, honestly. To my surprise. I went with the comparison recommendation, a 67RT one piece, with the standard backbore. To my surprise, not only did I find the new rim design more comfortable, but it definitely improved my endurance and flexibility, and my range is improved because I’m not pressing as much. Now—how to find a suitable wedge with this rim for a cornet mouthpiece to play on my Bach cornet as the website is a bit confusing with the British sizes? Also wish there was a similar wedge piccolo trumpet mouthpiece—I’m using a Schilke 14A currenty. -Andy S

Title: New York Bach 3C vs Harrison
First: The entire transaction of selecting, buying, shipping, a Harrison mpc from their Gabriola BC shop to New York where I live was incredibly easy & speedy. Second: My initial impression on playing 1st day was how responsive the mouthpiece is, on my NY Bach ML horn. The mpc is clearly really well made & engineered. Plays all registers as easily as anything I’ve ever played. I haven’t played it enough to fully understand the full spectrum of playability & tone vs what I’m accustomed to with my NY Bach 3C, so we’ll see in the coming months. -Leif A

Title: Fantastic mouthpiece!
After speaking with Dr Dave, I was fully anticipating the need to have an adjustment period with my new mouthpiece. For me this was not the case, I immediately felt comfortable playing it and it is now my absolute favorite! For the entire time that I've played trumpet for over 40 years, I've always had a ring around my lips after playing, it does not happen anymore! My playing time has extended, and my range is definitely more clear. I highly recommend this investment and if you're not someone (like me) that immediately adjusts to it, give it time and keep trying with it, the outcome is well worth it! -Michele H

I've played Bach, Denis Wick, Kelly and Wedge. I guess if it works, it worth the price. Like some players I've adjusted the mouthpiece so the dot is 90 degrees to the side. For me that's great. The mouthpiece is comfortable and after a week or so, I've been able to extend my range by three higher notes to C above the staff. For me, that's an accomplishment. I suffer from Dystonia so a lot of my experiences these days can be pretty fluctuating and my perception can be muddy but I noticed distinct improvement in multiple areas almost immediately. The real telling thing is that even with the ups and downs of addressing dystonia the improvements are still present after several weeks of playing. It has specifically helped me to relax and approach efficiency with more consistent results, especially in terms of resonance without force -Bill C

Title: Great Mouthpiece…Worth Purchasing!
The mouthpiece has a much easier ‘feel’ around the lips in that you are able to have more control when hitting low and high notes. It sits comfortably around your lips.Awesome experience! Your lips do not feel tired even after 1-2 hours of heavy practice! You can also purchase a bronze weight to be added to the mouthpiece to create a tighter sound still... I like the weight on my Delrin because I play with expression and the vibration is less pronounced with the weight added on! In all,you notice the pressure is much more even when playing with the Delrin ; and evenness of tone is one of the many advantages. Worth the money...I will be purchasing a Delrin for my trombone and my other trumpets in the future. 😊 Thank you - Nick G.

Most of the time I'm playing the Trombone 108 or 97c and with ALL this time we've got away from everyone these days I've been freshening my trumpet/cornet experiences. The 665 is easier on my lips/embouchure. Range is broader with deeper tone and the opportunity to explore techniques, attacks, subtle changes feels far more enjoyable again because the oval shape suits my lips... I like to whistle alot.... its a natural sensation and the Wedge suits well letting my lips respond similarily in a mouthpiece. Thank you Team Wedge. -Michael P

Title: Wedge mouthpiece
Dave is very willing to discuss concerns you may have regarding mouthpiece selections and he is very willing to suggest that you may be better off staying with a conventional mouthpiece. In other words he is not pushing his mouthpiece to the point that his advice is slanted and not very useful. Also, the return policy allows you to at least give the mouthpiece a try and evaluate before making a decision. I have tried the mouthpiece and so far after three days I am inclined to say that I like playing on the mouthpiece. I will give the mouthpiece a fair trial of a few weeks before making a decision.

My endurance and flexibility improved significantly and also my range is slightly better. The most important issue is endurance giving a solid foundation for good practice sessions. Maybe trying even a 10 degree angled rim… -Markku T.

Title: Chuck Findley 66S
I considered trying a wedge for quite a while before purchasing. I have to say that immediately the sound was richer right across the range and the instrument (Bach Strad ML43) felt better with any minor tuning issues (such as sharp A) greatly diminished. Swelling after long sessions is greatly reduced - increasing endurance and subsequent tone quality. The orientation of the piece is surprisingly of virtually no issue once the piece is initially placed into the lead pipe to complement my usual orientation of the instrument. Really pleased - thank you very much! -Ian D.

I started with a 66ES and found that I was able to reach double high G more consistently, but was unable to play well in the lower register. After talking with Dr. Dave, I switched traded the 66ES for a less shallow 66S and expect to maintain my range and endurance while regaining the lower register. My experience as a customer was outstanding. I was treated with patience and respect and was educated on why I responded in the manner I did to the mouthpiece. -Kevin G.

Title: Good for a beginner
I’ve only been playing the trumpet for a little over year. As an older player, starting in retirement, I found standard mouthpieces to take a real toll on my lips. The Yamaha 11B4 was pretty quickly replaced by the Bach 5c, but even with the 5c, after an hour of practice my lips would really hurt. I consulted Dr. Dave online regarding size, and he suggested the 66MV. It has been a very positive change. I can now play for several hours without pain, and my tone is markedly better. My range suffered initially, but now exceeds what I was able to do with the 5c. The 66MV forces me to push my corners more forward, so my embouchure is better.

Title: My new Wedge
After getting a new set of dentures, I was unable to play my trumpet with the standard mouthpiece I had and became very frustrated. After reading about the Wedge mouthpiece on Facebook and it's unique design, I thought it might help me with my problem. Daniel and Dr. David listened to my problem and made a suggestion to the one best for me. When it arrived I read the instructions on the box that told how to place the Wedge in my trumpet according to two dots on it. At first I was a little disappointed because it didn't seem to help, but I don't give up easily. I thought about it a while, the design and my denture problem, and decided to place the dots on the side instead on the top like suggested. That made a huge difference, now I love it and so glad I found the Wedge and the Harrisons. The ease of playing my trumpet and the sound is amazing. -Thelma P

Received my mouthpiece a few weeks ago. Transition from conventional mouthpiece was very easy. It immediately felt „right“. Most prominent differences for me are the ability to play with more ease in the upper register, endurance seems to benefit as well. It feels very comfortable all round the lips without any pressure points. The aperture corners of the lips seem more flexible, thus making it easier to play intervals with the notes slotting very well. Title: Fantastic Mouthpiece!!
I purchased the Delrin 63ES as an extreme high register piece for my Bb horn. When it arrived, I expected it to feel very tight with the possibility of bottoming out (my chops hitting the bottom of the cup and halting the air). Neither of these things happened. This mpc is ideally bright and my lips has never come close to hitting bottom. An added plus is that it plays terrifically well on my Carol Brass piccolo. The tone on the pic is that classic rich and bright sound - and with great latitude on intonation adjustments. Give it a try! Title: The Wedge
I loved it at first try. I thought I would feel a difference with the side missing on M/P, but it felt good, and less stressful while playing. What really impressed me was the dedication and follow-up that made this M/P so unique. Dave has done his home-work, and I have the proof to back it up. The only adjustment I had to make was keeping my trumpet straight. The dots on M/P is designed to be used in a vertical line. I had a habit of playing with a slight angle of horn while playing. The rim on B/P feels soft and confrontable. The comparison chart used for my selection was a good match for my previous B/P. Dave, Thank You. -Fred M

It started as an experiment. I read about Wedge mouthpieces and decided to buy one - to keep the financial risk low, a Delrin one. Due to the general situation these days, it took about 4 weeks to arrive at my place in Germany. First surprise: It worked. As the heights are not as brilliant as before with the traditional lathe-made Selmer S 3 which I have been using for quite some time, I keep on practising. I noticed that I had been applying too much pressure on the lips before. Now I have to train mere lip tension. Title: 77 years old and still blowing!
I've been playing trumpet for 68 years and played every style known to man! Except for the Covid-19 pandemic, I still play in a big jazz band, a community concert band, and a church orchestra. I stay competitive, practice every day, and more than hold my own against far younger and very talented trumpeters. However, it ain't easy! A friend of mine has bought a Wedge and tells me it has increased his endurance without compromising his range or his tone. I have always been of the mind that you play one mouthpiece for all your needs, but as my range began to suffer I added a second mouthpiece designed solely for the high range. And it has worked for that purpose, but my sound became thin and tinny and predictably my low tones suffered. I was embarrassed to have two mouthpieces at the ready depending if I have high notes (C, D, and E) to play, and my chosen mouthpiece for notes and passages that were lower. So, I ordered the Wedge...specifically the 63ES one-piece mouthpiece. Believe me, it is unique! It takes some work but is well worth it. My high range is back to big, fat and sassy! My tone is warm and round and, well, beautiful! It slots very well and I glide smoothly between notes and intervals are accurate and spot-on. The Wedge feels good on the lips and is a pleasure to play. My endurance? Let me just say that after my lip is shot...I still have what it takes for a considerable while longer. I love it! The only problem is, what to do with the other 27 mouthpieces I've accumulated over the years? I only need this ONE! -Bruce S

Title: The Wonderful Wedge Edge
I find myself using both my original Getzen 5C and the new Wedge for my daily practice sessions. I do my warm up with the 5C and play until my 75 year old lips get floppy and then I switch to the Edge. This cool (temperature) mouthpiece gives me a second chance and I find myself playing another session which is usually longer than the first before my lips give out again. The higher notes are always more readily available with the Wedge. I am very happy with my new Edge mouthpiece. This 65MV works so well that it would be interesting to try other Wedge mouthpieces considering the age of my lips. I am having a hard time getting back to the lip endurance that I had 50 years ago. Thank you for your time and thank you, again, for this Wonderful Wedge Edge. -Gary A

The mouthpiece was well made and communication with customer service was excellent. The plating may have been a bit thin and left a line at the shank point of contact with the mouthpiece receiver, but overall the execution of design seemed novel and worth a try or two to acclimate to it. -Josh H

Title: 67MDV one piece: Great product. A must-try
Definitely improved flexibility and yet the slotting seems easier. I've been working a lot on interval slurs and have went from about an octave to a P14 pretty smoothly. Range as a talking point increased about a minor 3rd. I used to have a wedge to my teeth but after an injury in the army I had my top 4 teeth pulled and dental implants to replace them. It's been a strange road learning to play the trumpet all over again but a wedge was a good investment. I noticed an immediate improvement in endurance from first session. I still play some on my Bach 1 1/2C for certain styles but my 67MDV is my main go-to choice. I'm currently going to be looking into the ES and LV wedge for big band and combo playing. -Shane W

It took me about a week to adjust, but once I did, it has certainly helped my playing. I typically have favored wider and flatter rims, but this rim was very comfortable and allowed for easier flexibility immediately. Sound and articulation were similar to my Bach, which I like, as well. -Tom D

Title: Initial Evaluation of Wedge Pierobon Lead Trumpet Mouthpiece
Immediately noticed an improvement in intonation (my wife also noticed and provided confirmation on what I was hearing). Pedal tones, while difficult at first, arrived suddenly a few days later, as did the upper register. Sweet! The Pierobon Lead mouthpiece was one of three that Dr. Dave recommended to replace my Schilke 14A4; he aced it! The Wedge is an interesting design that continues to amaze me in its effectiveness. Great gains in a few short weeks (received the mouthpiece on 28 April 2020). The Pierobon Lead mouthpiece is an excellent companion to my Yamaha YTR-8310Z. Thank you! -Douglas G., Ohio, USA

Title: 63 ES Review
I am a 67 year old trumpet novice. No matter how much - or little - I've worked at it, getting to a high C and sustaining the note has been a huge challenge. I bought the 63ES based on nothing more than desperation. I'd tried many other mouthpieces including plastic. This mouthpiece has gotten me re-invigorated to keep pushing! My range and technique have improved and once I achieved a high C I found that I could sustain the note far longer than I had imagined. This mouthpiece somehow retards fatigue and my sound has improved. As with many things in life, a little encouragement can go a long ways. Now that I've tried the 63ES I'm eager to research how I might achieve even better results with one of your other models. Thanks for bringing back some enjoyment to my trumpet playing! -William W

Dave, I have now been playing on the Wedge 665 MDV One Piece Trumpet Mouthpiece for one month. Truly, it's embouchure comfort is unmatched. I can play/practice for multiple hours one day without getting up the next day with sore chops. In addition, it is a great hybrid between my Bach 3C and 1.5C. A nice upper register, with the resonance of the larger 1.5C Bach. Your advice on which mouthpiece to choose was right on target. Soon I will be contacting you with your suggestion about which mouthpiece to use for strictly lead work. You are a fine mouthpiece maker. Thank you. -Ron L, Dallas, TX.

Title: OK.....this is a serious piece of equipment!
I'm new to the Wedge Mouthpiece. I ordered the stock one piece Findley 66MV and much to my surprise the rim design didn't feel awkward or even all that foreign. I found the sound to be full and warm with lots of color. Whether playing Concone, Top Tones (W. Smith) or working out Jazz patterns, I found multiple articulations (single, double, triple, doodle) spoke nicely. The high register was actually quite easy.....no, this isn't a trick mp for high notes, it's a real, seriously designed piece of equipment. I'm excited to be moving towards the Wedge Mouthpieces. Oh yeah...I just ordered 2 more. Life is good. -Ray V

Title: 66MDV One Piece Trumpet Mouthpiece
It needed a bit of practice to really get the feel of this mouthpiece, especialy for the lower notes. But the efforts (not that much, in reality) were worth it. High notes are clear, the middle ones as well, and the lower pitch feels and sounds more full. I also believe that I get a better sound projection. I also compare it regularily to my other three (my very first old Bach of fifty five years, a newer Bach and a Olds), and I can clearly sense the difference. Endurance is also gained. Overall, I am very satisfied with this new mouthpiece. Impressive design. -Jean

Title: Impressive Mouthpiece
My overall experience with my Wedge mouthpiece has been very good. Dr. Dave gave me very good advice about which mouthpiece would be a good choice for me based on my previous piece which was a Shilke 14A4A and my desired results. Upon receiving the new piece I was very pleased that it felt pretty comfortable right away. I also had I bigger and darker sound on the piece which was desirable. My range is consistent with the Shilke but sound is richer. It has been about 3 weeks and I feel very happy with the comfort and sound. I have not had a chance to get a real sense of my endurance which is my main goal but I feel confident that once I am able to resume live performances that I will see an improvement. I highly recommend trying a Wedge. -Michael C L

Title: Step up.
I’ve had my Wedge for a couple of weeks. There was initial improvement immediately in tone, hitting and holding pitch centers, high register tone, endurance and a step or so up the high register. Hitting pitches reliably was off some and I had some lip corner leaking. However, continued practice seems to be improving all of these. I’m using a regular mouthpiece on my flugel and I seem to have a better feel for that. I doubt I’ll go back to my regular trumpet mouthpiece. When my funds allow I may try one for my flugel. I think everyone should give the wedge a serious trial -William J K

Title: Wedge 64ES
I purchased the Wedge and immediately started practicing with it. Typically I practice an hour to an hour and a half everyday, missing no more than one day on rare occasions. The pros: - the mouthpiece feels very comfortable - my sound is a little fuller with the Wedge The cons: - I immediately lost about a third off my range and have not yet gained it back - my endurance is not as good with the Wedge I have used the mouthpiece exclusively, except for two days when I switched back and forth a few times during my practice session just to verify that I was not doing anything different and that my range was better with my Bobby Shew Lead mouthpiece... it was. Since my primary purpose for the purchase was for an increase in range and endurance, unless something changes pretty quickly, I'd have to say that this particular mouthpiece is not working as planned. -Lew L

Title: DHC mouthpiece
Sound quality notably improved for classical applications, but still undecided about improved range, while the shaping of the piece does address my slight under bite. I also feel that I still have to place my embouchure higher above center for most dependable sound. For range improvement I thought so at first but feels quite variable based on fatigue obviously. However I am taking the main advice from Dr Dave about nothing being better than practice, so I am putting a lot of time into studies and exercises to improve my technique and breath control before I decide about improved range. -Regards, Eric

Title: Chuck Findlay 66S Wedge Mouthpiece Review
There’s a bit of a learning curve for the embouchure but nothing a few hours of serious practice didn’t handle. This mouthpiece replaces my Dennis Wick 3C “heavy top” which I have used exclusively for about 15 years playing lead in a big band and also first chair in a community philharmonic band. My low range is hampered by this mouthpiece but I don’t miss it cause I don’t go there much. I’m 68 now and am not too worried about restricting myself in that area. As for the top end I didn’t see much difference in upper range, but no surprise there. The Wick is awesome there for my lip. Where this Wedge shines is in increased stamina as well as ease of hitting the higher notes. It’s just easier. At my advanced age that is a godsend. As we age, muscle mass reduces, and the muscle in the lip appears not to be an exception. One of my strong suits as a player was always my stamina and I’ve noticed a slow but appreciable drop in that regard in the last ten years or so. The Wedge has put me back into my comfort zone. Thank you so much. Definitely worth the high end price...now if only you could do something like this for my eyes! -Jim M

Title: 65S One Piece Trumpet Mouthpiece
As a comeback player (40 years of not playing), I'm enjoying the process of figuring out how chops really work (so much information on youtube) and beginning the process of retraining. I figured I would check out the wedge, and my first purchase was the less expensive plastic "bach3c" model. I continue to use this as my daily practice mouthpiece. For fun, I decided to purchase the 65S. Definitely a strong "high-range" mp. Very comfortable to play, and the sound is remarkably good (though very definitely a shallow mp sound) even in lower ranges. I'll most likely be getting a wedge for my flugel as well as a metal wedge akin to the bach3c or similar. -George C

Title: Plastic .650 MV and a comeback player
I played trumpet back in high school in the 1970s. I was a pretty decent player and dedicated to practicing, but never played anything above C6 (and even that was an effort). Got back into playing a month ago, and have been scouring youtube for embouchure ideas. Anyway, I'm experimenting with some new (to me) ideas based on what makes sense to me, and figured as long as I'm starting over why not try a different mouthpiece? I was somewhat skeptical about the wedge, but I'm kind of a scienc-y and geeky guy so I thought "why not try it." I was a bit shocked by the sticker price, so I opted for the less expensive plastic one piece that the comparison chart said was closest to a bach 3c. While I've only been playing now for about 5 weeks, I will say I'm pretty happy with the Wedge. My range has extended a bit beyond my high school range --- perhaps partly due to a "reset" of my embouchure --- but if I switch back and forth between my regular 3c and the Wedge there is a definite difference --- the Wedge is provides a bit more comfort and security in the upper register. I did not opt for the tone ring offered with the plastic mouthpiece. In hindsight, I probably should have. However, I am happy enough (which means, pretty outstandingly happy) that I have ordered a second Wedge mouthpiece --- this time a metal one --- with a slightly different cup depth. (I'm pretty tight with a dime, so I'm pretty convinced that this is a good investment.). -George C

Title: Wow!
The trumpet is not my main instrument, I play trombone and tuba in a dixieland band. I was so impressed with my first Wedge for trombone that I wanted to have one for my other horns. I must thank Dave for his patience, especially concerning the choice of this mouthpiece (before settling on this model I pestered him with lots of questions about flugelhorn and cornet models). Now, about the mouthpiece - I'm extremely happy! One thing I was absolutely sure of was the level of comfort it would provide - the contour edge fits the lips so well that it lets me virtually eliminate any kind of mouthpiece pressure, and Delrin really feels good on the lips. It also darkens my tone a bit, which (in my case) is a good thing. Definitely recommended, and I will soon be back to buy more mouthpieces for my other instruments. Thank you very much! -Lorenzo P

Title: New Go-To Mouthpiece
I've been playing on my Wedge for 3 months and it's now my go-to piece. This mouthpiece is better than any other I've played on- it increased my range, endurance, improved my articulation and is very comfortable. (Not drastically, but noticeabley. This is not going to magically make you an amazing trumpet player) I played on a 1 1/2C for 10 years and every time I tried something new, it was not as good. This one was different. One advantage/disadvantage is the adjustment period. I found that I could instantaneously play better on the wedge and the curve of the mouthpiece didn't bother me at all. However, I found that you really have to have the corners engaged with this mouthpiece, so my endurance was actually weaker at first. After about a month of playing on it and figuring it out a little more, my endurance has increased. The biggest flaw would be positioning the mouthpiece where you want it when you play, but the advantages outweigh this issue for me. The last thing I would like to mention is Dr. Dave- he was extremely helpful, responsive to all my questions and helped me get the right size. It's an expensive mouthpiece, but if you do a lot of playing and are not happy with your current mouthpiece, try it! -Jonathan S

Title: Son's endurance has increased
My 12-year old son with a severe overbite got the 10-degree wedge mouthpiece. He is holding his trumpet more in line with his peers, and has increased his endurance while playing. He was randomly selected for County Band and had a six-hour practice day, which was far greater in length than any practicing he had done before. He complained that night that his teeth felt loose (I confirmed for him that they weren't) but that his lips were comfortable. His major complaint was a minor chapping. He was able to play the concert the following day with confidence and with a great sound. He has said several times that it is much more comfortable to play on the wedge than on either his Bach 3C or 7C mouthpieces. I think that I made the right choice for him. -Jamie B

Title: 67 MDV - what a sweet sound
The 67 MDV is the mouthpiece that I acquired most recently. I have to admit that, after the instant acclimatisation to the other four pieces (MV, MD, RT, and FL), it took me much longer to find the right feel and blow on the MDV. I don't really know why, and I could only venture a guess, but I think it just had to do with its particular cup depth that I was having some difficulty adjusting to. So, after almost sending it back, I thought that maybe I just need to give some more, and exclusive, playing time. That did it! Without switching back and forth between mouthpieces I was able to get used to it and find its air & sound center. I love the rich, sweet sound it produces, and I now play principally on that piece, so I'm really glad I found the patience to stick with it! I hope relating this experience will be helpful to others who are new to the Wedge products. They are fantastic! -Michael A

Title: Excellent Mouthpiece
I ordered the 65 MDV after speaking with Dr. Dave. I previously played a Schilke 13C4. The "Wedge" was very easy to adapt to. I play in a Concert Band and a Jazz Band. After my first time using my new mouthpiece in the band, My conductor (who I previously told I was getting the wedge) asked it I got it yet. When I told him I used it tonight for the first time, he told me that my tone sounded better. I am 59 years old and this is the band instructor that taught me how to play back in the 7th grade!. He is still playing and conducting our bands! I am very pleased with the Wedge and I use it as my number one mouthpiece. -Michael L.

Title: I tried the Chuck Findley model
I found the rim to be more comfortable than the Bach 3C rim I am accustomed to playing. The cup however on the 66M seemed a bit shallow, even though I could play it fairly well. But I am not accustomed to playing shallow cups so I felt no immediate benefit from the mouthpiece in range or volume of sound. My tone was actually a little warmer and less edgey on the 66M. I felt this was because I felt my chops were not vibrating as freely because of the shallow cup. I would recommend it for someone who normally plays a shallower cup because the rim is more comfortable than standard rims. I intend to try another Wedge model that has a slightly deeper, thanks to the helpful return/ exchange policy they have at Wedge. -Joseph M.

Title: Works as Advertised
I am a 55 year old community band player and have been playing the 66MV for about 6 weeks - replacing the Yamaha Bobby Shew Jazz I had been playing for several years. I can say with confidence that I have experienced improved range and stamina with the 66MV. I am glad that this mouthpiece is helping me to reduce the effects of Father Time which is giving me the confidence to continue my solo work around town. As a result of this experience, I have also ordered Wedge mouthpieces for my picc and flugelhorn. -Mark J

Title: Wedge 665MDV review
I recently took over playing lead in a big band and I was struggling with range and endurance. After discussing with Dr. Dave, I purchased a 665MDV single piece mouthpiece, which, is a little large for playing lead but somewhat smaller than my previous setup. I immediately noticed all of the advertised benefits. My range, although it only improved slightly, was more solid, the notes slot better, my endurance improved immensely and the overall sound improved. In a blind test, I asked my wife which mouthpiece sounded better, without hesitation, she immediately picked the wedge. Thanks Dr. Dave, I will be back for more for other instruments. -Ian B

Title: 67MV - Great medium sized piece!!
This was the first Wedge that I ordered last March after many weeks of examining the website and communicating extensively with Dr. Dave. His exhaustive advice and constant availability are unique in the entire music business, and he guided me to my initial purchase. Since then I've purchased several other excellent mouthpieces for flugelhorn, piston trumpet, and rotary trumpet. What really struck me immediately about the 67MV was its richness of tone and ease of response. I would describe it as a medium-small cup (for me at least) and I found the depth to be similar to a Yamaha or Schilke B cup or a Bach 3C. Being (subjectively, of course) on the bright side of the timbre scale, I knew right away that an MD cup would probably become my standard piece, and in fact that's the way it has turned out. Will I send this piece back? Absolutely not!! It's great for work that requires a more (slightly more) cutting edge in the sound and greater projection, like pop/rock music or a high but non-lead big band part. However, it can also be used for symphonic work where an inherently dark sound is not vitally necessary. What was so amazing about this mouthpiece is that once I started playing it I never went back to my conventional mouthpieces, which btw are excellent. I played in a symphonic film-score concert just four days after it arrived! Dr. Dave described this situation as me being a "Wedge Responder", and I can only confirm that this is so. I am also extremely satisfied with the 67MD, 67RT, and 67FL that I own and reviewed at the beginning of August of this year (if anyone might be interested in reading those reviews). I repeat what I've already written in my reviews and on the Wedge FB page, that in my experience everything that is claimed on the Wedge website is true. And this is because behind the design, development, and subsequent evolution of Wedge mouthpieces is science, medical knowledge, and research. These mouthpieces are unique, and they work beautifully for me. AND, they've breathed new enthusiasm into my life of music making! -Michael A.

Title: My New Main Mouthpiece
After playing my Yamaha YTR6310Z trumpet with the 66MV wedge mouthpiece for 3 weeks, including 3 public performances, I can say the transition is finalized. My main playing genre is jazz, including improvised solos, in combo and big band ensembles. Been playing trumpet over 60 years now and have not won any high note awards yet. Try to play an hour or so each day, but lapses do occur. Therefore, good enough endurance to get thru the gig is always an issue. The wedge mouthpiece has helped a little to improve endurance. Also makes C to D above the staff a little more attainable in active playing situations. It is more comfortable. Attack precision and flexibility are good. Tone is also good to my ear – maybe a little brighter than with the Yamaha 14B4. None of my listeners have asked if something is wrong or am I feeling OK – this is a good sign. Making sure the dots are properly vertically aligned takes some getting used to. I find myself checking each time I begin playing; the mouthpiece does not work well if the dots aren’t vertical. It is also not a magic mouthpiece. Improvements, in my experience, are marginal, but every little bit of improvement is gladly appreciated. So, bottom line: the wedge mouthpiece is working for me, and I plan to order one for my flugelhorn and maybe another trumpet one for emergency lead situations soon. -James Roger V.

Title: My new wedge mouthpiece.
I am a veteran player, an octogenerian and so the idea of not teaching an old dog new tricks sprung to mind when I ordered my mouthpiece. More like curiosity and the generous money back guarantee. I am also a procrastinator and looked at the mouthpiece for over a week before summoning the courage to try it. Why I hesitated I shall never know. I found the mouthpiece a delight. My sound improved and I was aware of more comfort with little evidence of pressure on the sides of my embouchure. My top range has increase in power although a high F rather than a G is now the reality. This could and should change in time but overall I am more than pleased with this mouthpiece which I bought on the strength of a YouTube clip of Dave(?) playing with the mouthpiece. Just pondering now whether to buy a flugel mouthpiece. -Colin J.

Title: Verdict Still Out
My first reaction to the 66MDV was uncertainty as to it's whether or not it would produce the desired results. My tone was not as full and there was no noticeable range improvement. However, after a few days of practice, I found my tone more closely matching the full, dark tone I'm used to. I do feel a significant improvement in flexibility. My range did not improve initially, however, after two weeks it seems to have improve slightly. At my first band rehearsal after using the 66MDV for about 2 weeks I did seem to have better endurance. I am considering exchanging for a different size, but want to give this another week or two. The concept of the Wedge seems to work well. I just want to be certain I have the best model for my desired results. -Kyle A.

Title: I'm a Believer
I was a little skeptical about this design since I have been using a Bach mouthpiece since 5th grade...57 years ago. Decided to try it and received my Wedge 66MD with a #25 throat at the end of August. It feels weird at first, and it takes a little getting used to. But I find my comfort level has improved considerably (especially for a long gig) and the ease in reaching my upper range has improved. My lower range is perhaps a bit more subdued than with my Bach 5C, but that's OK. I play in a community concert band and a brass quintet. I talked with Dr. Dave about which model to buy and he was very helpful in helping me reach my decision. I will most likely purchase a Wedge for my flugelhorn. -W. Kent

Title: Update on 66MDV review; 5/26/19
As stated in my 5/26/19 review of the 66MDV trumpet mouthpiece, I bought a second one for my new Getzen silver elite bugle. I bugle for the American Legion Honor Guard and Bugles Across America. Wow, the 66MDV opened up the sound of the bugle to a big big voice! A bugle already is loud compared to a trumpet, but the 66MDV added a fullness and boldness to the sound. Overall, the sound is fuller and deeper than the Schilke Symphony M5C or Bach 7C that I had been using. Range is every bit as good and the high register stays full and rich too. Fellow buglers have commented on how good the sound is, mostly commenting on how full and open the sound is. The high notes and crescendo’s sound strong too. I am as pleased with the 66MDV on the bugle as I am on the trumpet. Once you hear the sound of this mouthpiece, the price becomes insignificant. Totally happy. -John T.

L'estensione è rimasta uguale. Devo migliorarne la resistenza che è leggermente calata rispetto a quando usavo il mio solito bocchino. I've been using the item just for a few days but I already feel that the position of the lips is firmly attached to the mouthpiece. The range is remained the same. I have just to improve the resistence, that is slightly worse in comparison to when I was using my old mouthpiece. -Michele M.

Title: 66ES is very impressive
I've tried a number of shallow mouthpieces from other companies for lead work, but they always cut off the bottom range of the horn making wide ranging passages inconsistent. It's the most versatile lead mouthpiece I've played on. -Paul M.

Title: 67RT - the best rotary trumpet mouthpiece I've ever played!!
I'm actually reviewing first the Wedge mouthpiece that I have spent the least amount of time on, but it doesn't matter at all. ALL of the Wedges that I've bought have been instant successes, with immediate positive results. I can confirm that every claim made on the Wedge website, about how these mouthpieces will improve performance, is true. I won't get into why it works, everything is exhaustively explained on the website. I guess I'm what Dr. Dave Harrison calls a "Wedge responder", or one that takes to the new equipment right away. Infact, I played a concert on a new 67MV four days after it arrived. So, the 67RT. What a beautiful sound, easy response, and efficiency on the rotary instrument. The cup depth is deep but not too deep, somewhere between a Breslmair G2 and G3, but closer to the G2. It's quite v-shaped, and it matches perfectly with the smaller bore of the typical german/austrian type of trumpet. Because of this deep cup/small bore combination, the upper range is not at all difficult to produce, and the sound is full and rich in all registers. It's a joy to play on! The Wedge was up against some very stiff competition from some other fine mouthpiece makers, but it's on the horn at every playing now. Everything else is in my mouthpiece cemetary! -Michael A.

Title: Great general use mouthpiece!
I'm pretty sure that the 67MD is going to be my general use mouthpiece. My first Wedge was a 67MV, which I purchased after a lengthy period of reading/studying everything I could about them and an extended, informative and guiding email conversation with Dr. Dave Harrison. No one else in this business dedicates that much time and energy with clients for such extended periods. The MD cup has a beautiful, warm but focused sound. As with all Wedges, it has a special singing quality that's so easy to produce. The combination of pressure transfer, the lateral dip, and the oval shaped cups seems to produce this. I also really like the MV for when a brighter sound is appropriate but a lead mouthpiece isn't necessary. As I mentioned in another review, I've found all claims made on the website to be true! I can also use the MD on my rotary trumpet, and the difference in sound with respect to the RT is much less than one might expect. I've found the Wedge rim design to be, in my opinion, the most important advance in brass instrument technology since the invention of valves two hundred years ago. It is truly revolutionary, and has made me a very happy brass player with newly found enthusiasm for music making! -Michael A.

Also, as an added benefit, I felt I always had to tip my head back to play to keep horn up which Dave suggested I try a 5 degree angle. My horn feels much more comfortable to stand and play now. Lastly, I recently tried my old mouthpiece on a challenging song, after my lips felt gassed I put the wedge design back in my horn and was able to play it easily through 2 more times!! I love it. Title: 67MD – Biggest innovation in mouthpieces in my lifetime!
I purchased a Wedge mouthpiece based on a roundup review of the top mp’s currently on the market and in hindsight that review did not fully highlight the virtues of the Wedge so I will endeavor to correct that now. I performed a “blind” A/B/C test with my 2 go-to mp’s (A Schilke 15 and Bach 1C) and the new Wedge 67MD, my go-to horn (YTR-8335) and a single piece of music. After playing all three mp’s randomly for 20 minutes, my listener preferred the Wedge each and every time. We both noticed that the Wedge had more tonal richness and robustness, that my interval accuracy was superior, and I fewer cracked notes on attack. And the ergonomic comfort of the oval cup was a major surprise! The only downside was that my range was off by about a full two tones but that appears to be due to the throat not being as large as my A & B mps so I’m waiting on a new Wedge with a throat that matches my air stream needs. I thank Dr. Dave and his company for accommodating my request for an exchange and him taking the time to answer my numerous questions. I highly recommend the Wedge and Harrison Mouthpieces Inc. for their outstanding products and customer service. -Ken H.

Same control and ease of playing from low F# to D above the staff. Title: First mouthpiece change in 40 years
My new Wedge did improve my playing - slightly more security in the high register without sacrificing sound in the low range, which is the usual trade-off. I had being playing the same custom made Warburton for about 40 years. While having that mouthpiece copied I tried a variety of different pieces, Reeves, Yamaha. Monette… All seemed good to start with, but my playing deteriorated over time on these. I have given my Wedge a good 2 month trial. It seems like it is better for me. With COVID I have not had the chance to try it on the real testing grounds of playing 3 gigs a day on a tour. I hope I get a chance for that soon and can test my new Wedge for real world endurance. Using the shallow mouthpiece, my upper register was sound-wise significantly better than another brand shallow mouthpiece I played on for awhile. I am really glad I took this step to upgrade to this Wedge, even though I was happy with my previous Wedge, I am getting good results with this model for range, endurance, comfort, & sound quality. -Ralph M

Title: Great Piece!!
I absolutely love my new Wedge mouthpiece!! A trumpet player friend of mine told me about it and after trying a few different backbore combinations I settled on the 2 piece heavy weight with a medium backbore. I couldn’t believe how I picked up a minor third on top right out of the gate. I do a lot of film, TV and commercial work for my company, MasterRecs, and don’t get to practice as much as I should these days. The Wedge makes it so much easier to lay down the tracks I need without the usual struggle. I highly recommend this piece!! -Ken B

Title: Two Piece Trumpet Backbore - Bb Length
The plastic wedge is perfect in the cold. It will always feel warm to the touch. It does produce a bit of a mellower sound as compared to the one piece all metal. Still a very nice sound and well worth the money. -Shelley B

Title: very stable
For me, the M variant is very stable and precise in tuning. Also, the stainles steel finish is very resistant, looks very beautiful and is suitable for those who want a more penetrating, directed sound, suitable for jazz bands. - Edi M.

Title: Quick conversion - and an old dog has learned a new trick!
I first tried a plastic (delrin) mouthpiece and was surprised to find that the change from a traditional cup to a Wedge mouthpiece was not so weird as I thought it might be. In fact it wasn't weird at all. I guess that within 3 days my embouchure normalised to the new shape and feel. So the next step was to get a two-piece version with a steel backbore and delrin cup. I find it's brighter and projects better. I'm a senior-aged musician (82). I've been a professional trumpeter for over 60 years and I'm still pretty active and working regularly. The extra support that my chops get from the Wedge has been a great help to sustaining my range and endurance as my ageing muscles tire and take longer to recover. -John S

Title: Great Mouthpiece!!
I ordered the Chuck Findley model earlier this year. I played it for a few weeks, wasn’t quite sold on it, tried it again a few weeks later and have been playing it ever since. Had really blown my chops out by the end of 2019, and I feel this mouthpiece really helped my recovery. -Steve H

Title: Overbite modified mouthpiece
I bought the medium size backbore (size 27) with a modified trumpet top (64MV). With my previous used standard 3C mouthpiece I got too much pressure on my upper-lip due to my overbite, which impacted my endurance and general performance. Also my tone and flexibility are improved most probably because of the typical wedge shape with smaller rim-width at the sides, which enables you to change your lip tension more easily. Now I can play with less pressure on my upper lip and my endurance and range are improved significantly. It only took some time to get my lower lip trained and used to the new mouthpiece. -Marcel S

Title: 665md with 2 piece trumpet backbore Bb length
Just over a week in and im enjoying the comfort and sound of my 665md wedge. Has a great sound particularly for orchestral playing. Range is about the same as my usual mpc but certainly not worse. Still working Endurance out but certainly think it could be an improvement. The only aspect that is a little less than I'd like is a small loss of brightness in articulation or a slightly less compact sound . Overall a great free blowing mouthpiece.

Title: Virus Blocked
Beginning the day following delivery of my new Wedge mouthpiece, ALL of the groups I play in were cancelled until further notice. I live in a condo and can only practice with a practice mute. While I am loving the feel of the mouthpiece I have yet to test it while playing in a section of a big band or any other ensemble. I very frustrated to say the least. I "think?" it may work for me but I won't know for sure until I get the opportunity to play it in a group or on a gig. I am hoping that this situation will resolve soon. If it does not I may be requesting an extension on your already generous return policy. As best that I can tell I may need to make a change or and addition to the order for a darker sound. I may keep what I have and order an extra (deeper) cup section to meet my needs on the classical playing that I do. I trust that you are all staying safe and healthy. As to weather or not I would recommend this product, the answer would be, I think everyone should try it and find out if it does what you need. I CAN'T WAIT TO TRY PLAYING IT IN ONE OF MY GROUPS! -Michael W

Title: Great Backbore!!!!!
I bought this so I could have the "C" length and the regular weight mid section to mix and match with what I already had (Heavy weight Bb length). Love it! When changing out the middle you really notice a difference in slotting and timbre. Very excited to have these different timbre's at my disposal. Changing out the Bb length for the C length on my C trumpet I notice an immediate difference in the response, sound quality and resistance. I tried a bunch of C trumpets (probably around 11) with the C length vs the Bb length and each one responded a little differently. Oddly enough some slotted better for me with the Bb length, while some expectedly slotted better with the C length. Definitely worth buying because every person is different and every horn is different. -Jeff L

Better than I had imagined. Better sound than a conventional mouthpiece. You will improve the resistance and sound of your trumpet. I will change all my mouthpieces. I am a professional trumpeter and I recommend all trumpeters to try these new mouthpieces. The workers will advise you on which mouthpiece is best for you or which wedge is equivalent to your mouthpiece. -Marcos G L

Title: Gave me Three Notes
WOW! I have been blown away. First was the excellent customer service. Dr. Dave took the time to make sure I had the right mouthpiece. Second, I was impressed with the island operation. Great production setting. And third (most importantly), this new mouthpiece has given me more than I had hoped for. On day number one I could easily reach 3 notes higher up the register. After two weeks I was comfortably playing in my historical upper ranges. Notes that used to be a challenge for me to reach now come with ease. I've also had quite a few compliments on my improved tone. I cannot recommend Dave's mouthpieces strongly enough. Every brass player needs this. -Bob L

Title: Brightest Sound Ever on the 65S!!
I’ve been playing trumpet for over 35 years and have experimented on many “lead” mouthpieces looking for a combination of comfort and endurance. My search ended when I purchased the Wedge 65S. I’ve always had a strong upper register. The first day running my range exercise on the 65S, I hit a double-D. My playing needs rarely go above high-G and it’s a joy to play Hugh-G’s on the 65S. The sound is blisteringly bright - which is exactly what I need. I opted for the 25-throat to allow more air. I’m equally happy with my 66MD and 67D tips. With all the tops on screw rims, the ML and S backbores make it simple to mix & match for a plethera of tone colors. Thanks Dr. Dave for following your dream and designing this terrific line of mouthpieces! p.s. I’m ordering a flugel cup for my darker tone needs! -Robert S.

Title: Untitled
I received the usual great amount of time and expert advise from Dr. Dave while custom fitting a ML C-length shank from the Wedge heavy-weight backbore to my Yamaha C rotary trumpet's extra wide mouthpiece receiver. The ML C-length shank was my go-to piece for my Yamaha D/Eb, and now it becomes THE piece for the C rotary. Because the ML C-length shank is more free blowing throughout the whole register than the Bb shank, it has become the orchestral choice for my Schagerl Bb rotary Ganch horn as well. - Keith W.
