It's a clear but still very warm tone. - S S. Pierobon Flugelhorn Hybrid Top5 star reviewTitle: Hybrid Flugel MouthpieceI don't normally like playingon plastic mouthpieces but I decided to give the Hybrid a go. I was pleasantly surprised, this is not like playing on a plastic mouthpiece, I found it much more comfortable and it didn't have the cheap feel of plastic, I would recommend these without hesitation. - Chris P. 63FLS Flugelhorn Hybrid Top 5 star reviewTitle: Just the ticket As a hobbyist trumpet player, the Wedge mouthpieces are a miracle! I play a 63M with 10° angle so I decided to try the flugel 63 FLS hybrid with a 10° angle and I’m so glad I did! I have so much more endurance because it is so comfortable, plus I have been able to play up to g on top of the staff ! - Roberta H. 65FLC Flugelhorn Hybrid Top 5 star reviewTitle: First switch to hybrid a win I have used Dave's 64 series Wedge tops in delrin for several years, but have been considering a move to the 65 series and to a hybrid top and this one was my first experiment in that regard. I always liked the delrin tops, but always felt there was something missing in the presence of the sound. I tried acrylic, but I just don't like the feel--not quite sure what it is. I had to switch away from silverplated brass due to developing some sort of reaction to it, so the remaining option was the hybrid and so far it appears to be a win. It feels great while at the same time performing more like a brass mouthpiece than a plastic one. The change from 64 to 65 was simply a personal size thing. Many years ago, I used very large diameters, but worked my way smaller and smaller, finding little advantages along the way, but I felt as though I had pushed it one notch too far and this fixes that. So far, so good. I also have a 10-degree angle on this. I have a notable overbite and at my age I'm just done with trying to thrust my jaw forward, and bent mouthpieces just have too many inconsistency issues. This allows me to play with my horn at a better angle (especially in settings like a big band, so that I'm not having to either play into the lower back of the trombone players or play with my head tipped back so far that I can't read the music [also a lot easier when I was younger]). Dave's design on angling the rim is fantastic. It's fully built-in to the design, not an afterthought. It took no time at all to adjust to the angled rim. It felt natural immediately. This is not true with bent mouthpieces for me, and I think part of that is because the center of the cup stays in vertical alignment with the leadpipe on the Wedge angled rims, which just feels more "normal" and it takes some pressure off the upper lip, which is appreciated. - Keith T. 66FLC Flugelhorn Hybrid Top 5 star reviewTitle: Ease and Endurance I ordered the Wedge for my Flugle Horn. This one has a changing shank when I want to switch to trumpet. I notice my endurance improved immediately. We had a music clinic at our church. At the end of a three day run we all played with the congregation. This three day endeavor was not all about playing our instruments, so endurance was not from playing the whole time. It was study and lecture, mostly. We played for over two hours strait. One hymn after another. Was impressed that I made it through two plus hours. Nice! - Eric M. 66FLC Flugelhorn Hybrid Top 5 star reviewTitle: Good news from Bob Sando Fantastic in every way. Dr Dave is not a pushy guy trying to sell mouthpieces but a relaxed guy trying to find out what would work for you. He sold me one and within a couple of weeks I decided to buy another one for my flugelhorn. I love how it works. I still get tired but I can play longer and recoup faster. Fun to work with nice people. - Robert S. 65FLD Flugelhorn Hybrid Top 5 star reviewTitle: Incredibly rich sound Trying to find the optimal flugel mouthpiece that sounds full and rich without sacrificing range or comfort seemed like a hopeless endeavor... until I tried the wedge hybrid deep flugel mouthpiece. Incredibly comfortable, rich warm sound up and down the register, and impressively resonant sound. It's now my go-to mpc for all-round flugel playing. - Andrew D. 66FLC Flugelhorn Hybrid Top

Title: A Real Winner
This is my second wedge mouthpiece, the first being a standard trumpet 67 MDV hybrid, and I love both of them. My endurance has increased significantly and I have gained 2+ notes of range. I'll never be a high note artist, but to be able to play Ds and Es above middle C changes the game for me. I find that the 67FLC I recently purchased creates a slightly brighter tone, but the real benefit is in how much easier it is to play. I don't feel like I'm straining at all to create a clear tone yet retain the classic flugelhorn voice. Overall, I'm extremely happy with both purchases. -Timothy D.

Title: Still works great with my Yamaha flugelhorn
I have been using this mouthpiece for several years now. Flugelhorn got tangled in a mic chord in early August and tipped over breaking the acrylic mouthpiece. Bummer! Ordered new one and played very nicely at gig today. I like the feeling of the acrylic. It makes for a dark/mellow tone. Lends to clean note attacks. Pretty nice response in upper range - like G to C - where I actually seldom go on flugelhorn. I like it. -James R.V.

Title: Excellent design!
I recently purchased a 67FLC Flugelhorn mouthpiece because I am so pleased with my 67MV trumpet mouthpiece that I wanted to attain similar benefits on my Flugelhorn. As with the trumpet, the Flugelhorn sound is improved, becoming cleaner while maintaining the resonant dark sound that I strive to achieve on the Flugel. For me, the Wedge design allows for greater range, flexibility, slotting, secure pitch adjustment and improved timbre. Endurance in all registers is greatly improved. I highly recommend Harrison mouthpieces as upgrades from the more conventional designs. Previously I used Yamaha mouthpieces, and before them, Bach mouthpieces. My instruments are Yamaha Xeno trumpet and Yamaha Pro Flugel. As our understanding of sound production & physiology evolve, so must the design of the interface between our instruments and our bodies. I believe Dr Dave and the Harrison team are achieving great improvements for brass instrument mouthpiece design. Explore Dr. Dave's technical info on website for detailed explanations regarding his approach. -James M.

Title: 65FLC Flugelhorn Hybrid Top
This mouthpiece replaces a Townson FLX top on my Adams F2 flugelhorn. In short, I like it a lot. The change to a .65 diameter to match my 65 LV trumpet piece has greatly improved my ability to articulate and maintain a full tone in rapid passages. The tone is big, breathy and beautiful, and the pitches are well-centered. The hybrid top is easy on the lips and maintains a neutral temperature. I play with a relaxed embouchure, and have no difficulty with unwanted mouthpiece movement. It is a substantial improvement. Thanks for your good advice. -Jim B.

What do these two Canadians have in common? Dr. Dave went outside the box and used his medical, and mechanical knowledge to create the best mouthpiece I've ever played. The Wedge mouthpiece meets All the improvements listed on the site. I was a music ed. major in college. While practicing for my cousin's wedding I played too high for too long and strained my lip. That was about 40 years ago. Since then my chops wear out quickly with reduced range and a good deal of swelling. The new hybrid feels great. I have very little swelling. My sound in low and mid ranges is very good. I'm taking my time on extending range. I'm 73 and have renewed hope of improving. Oh yeh. Moe Norman was probably the best golf ball striker in history. Seven years ago I developed spinal stenosis. I switch from right to left handed golfing. Using Moe's style no spinal pain and I broke 90 numerous times last year. Thanks Dr. Dave. Thanks Moe. -Mike S.

Title: Great experience!
This mouthpiece is no miracle. It's the amazing results of anatomical knowledge, engineering and machining expertise and a love for music. My Yamaha 17F4 sounded too bright, had too much back pressure and wore me out rather quickly. My new 67FLC gives me that warm, round, smokey sound I'm looking for. Add to that less back pressure, more flexibility, better endurance and no swollen chops... OK, maybe it is a miracle. -MJS

Title: Nice mouthpiece
This is my first wedge. I am a beginner in brass so it is a little hard to say how this works compared to a normal mouthpiece but I am pretty sure it is better. Notes are easier for me. I go back and forth and the wedge really is more comfortable. I may be the first beginner to buy one of these, but a good start is important. I do have an overbite so I went with the 5%. -Nancy O

Title: Excellent mouthpiece!
I play jazz in small ensemble and big band settings and occasionally play studio dates (in jazz, pop and rocks settings). This is by far the best fluegelhorn mouthpiece I've ever had. The shape of the rim is very comfortable which makes switching from trumpet to fluegelhorn and back super easy. Although it is the smallest fluegelhorn mouthpiece cup design Wedge has, it still gives me that nice, warm fluegelhorn sound I love to hear in all registers. The smaller cup also helps with endurance, making it much easier to play longer solos. Great job once again, Wedge! -Martti V

The 65FLC mouthpiece gives me the same feel and response as my 65ES trumpet mouthpiece. I wanted a darker tone on my flugelhorn so I chose the standard cup depth. Conferred with Dave over several emails, and he said his experience was that you could play a bit smaller on the Wedge than his normal size. Title: Magic one, you can't miss it
Customer from Taiwan When I bought it three months ago, like most people feeling," try another brand again" hope the new one feels better after sweet period. And yes, wedge mouthpiece isn't disappointed to me. the rim design is totally a revolution design. something changes to me as below: 1 Use the old mouthpiece, when the air is not good flow enough,it sounds not good enough,or we'll make more pressure, overblow trumpet. Wedge rim design won't let you overblow easily , even on your bad time, the rim design can adjust your lip back to your best way. 2 most of time we can't feel it until the sounds become badly . When you have a gig or a show, wedge mouthpiece could let you know it's time to stop, even support you to the end of a gig, and get the minimal miss of notes. TRY ONE! the company policy makes the mouthpieces valuable even several years later! -Patrick W

Title: Two piece flugelhorn mouthpiece works great!
Never having touched a flugelhorn before and certainly never having blown one, I asked Dave for a recommendation because the Shielke and Bach mouthpieces that came with new (used) flugelhorn just weren't working. Dave recommend the standard sized shank and the 66FLC top because the 66MDV trumpet mouthpiece works so well for me. I've never had a 2 piece mouthpiece before so I was a little leary of it, but now that I've got one, I love it! I see why Dave recommended the 2 piece; one can more easily and more cheaply switch between tops. Anyway, the 66FLC delivers the same big, deep and rich sound on the flugelhorn as the 66MDV does on the trumpet. I love the 66 size rim because it is wide and seems to float on my lips and not dig in causing fatigue. I use the mouthpiece horizontally because my face is so narrow. The 66FlC is deep so it takes a different approach than the trumpet, so this is going to take some getting used to. But the new Wedge mouthpiece does exactly what Dave represented. Thanks again Dave! -John T
