The Wedge 101G is a good replacement for the larger 5G and Schilke 51 mouthpieces. It does have a slighty deeper cup than the others. However, the 101G is not as deep as the Schilke 51D. The 101G has an ID of 1.01 inches, a .280 throat, and is available with a small or large shank.
The top and bottom rims of the G3 mouthpieces each have a slightly different shape. The rim also has a sligtly softer bite then the Gen 2 rims.
Most players get better performance placing the wider rim at the top and the orientation dot at the bottom, but the mouthpiece can be played in either orientation.
