Description
 
The Schilke 6A4A has a long history as a very effective small diameter, extra shallow lead mouthpiece. The proven formula of the .63 inch rim and shallow cup is one of the factors that makes the 63ES one of our top ten selling mouthpieces.
 
The 63ES provides excellent brilliance, projection, and slotting in extreme upper register playing. The unique features of the Wedge rim mean that players using this small mouthpiece will not experience the reduced flexibility, nasty sounding low register, and tendancy for the mouthpiece to shut off due to lip swelling that are often problems with conventional mouthpieces of this size.

Description
 
The 63LV falls between the 63ES and 63S by having an extra shallow first cup and small, V shaped double cup. This provides most of the upper register support of the ES cup with a superior low register.
 
The low alpha angle helps to prevent bottoming out and the double cup design makes the mouthpiece feel more open. The 63ES is a great lead mouthpiece, but some players have also used the 63LV and the slightly larger 64LV and 65LV as a piccolo trumpet mouthpiece.
 
The double cup produces an unusually full sounding low register, which is great for some picc repertoire where you would like to be able to dig into the low end of the horn without sounding like you are strangling a small, anxious duck.

Description
 
The Schilke 6A4A is an excellent small mouthpiece for playing lead, but with limitations: some players will bottom out on the cup, it has a very bright sound, and the low register is very restricted.
 
The 63S has the same inner diameter as the S6A4A and Wedge 63ES counterpart, but with a deeper cup. This avoids the problems with the 6A4A, while still providing great upper register support and projection.

Description

The Schilke 10A4A is the big brother of the 6A4A, having the same extra shallow cup depth and a slightly larger ID to give a bit more room.

The Wedge 64ES fills the same niche for a small diameter, extra shallow mouthpiece with a slightly larger ID than the 6A4A and 63ES, providing better flexibility and more room for swelling.

The 64ES is also a good option for players using a Schilke 13A4A and who want a slightly smaller inner diameter, providing better endurance than the Schilke or the slightly larger Wedge 65ES.

The 64LV has the same ID as the 64ES and S10A4A. Like other LV cup mouthpieces, the 64LV provides excellent upper register support, an open blow, and an unusually big low register for such a small, shallow mouthpiece.
 
This is a great choice for playing lead and is popular as a piccolo trumpet mouthpiece when a balance between a brilliant upper register and full low end is desired.

The 64S has the same ID as the 64ES, 64LV and S10A4A. The cup is deeper than the above mouthpieces, and similar to a Schilke 14A4A cup depth.
 
This is a great choice for playing lead and is popular as a piccolo trumpet mouthpiece when a balance between a brilliant upper register and full low end is desired.
 
The sound is darker than the 64ES or LV, with a better low end, but not quite as much support in the upper register.

Description
 
The Schilke 10B4 is a very versatile mouthpiece with a small diameter and medium cup depth similar to a Bach 10.5C and Bach 3C, scaled down in diameter.
 
The 64MV shares these characteristics and works well in a variety of settings. It has a sound brighter than what would be usually desired for orchestral playing, but fits in well in most other playing situations.
 
This is also an excellent piccolo trumpet mouthpiece.

The Schilke 13A4A, Yamaha 13A4A, Bobby Shew Lead, and Kelly Screamer are all very similar, very successful lead mouthpieces. Note that the cup of the Schilke 13A4A is significantly shallower than the 14A4A.
 
The Wedge version of this mouthpiece size is the 65ES. The Wedge ES cup is slighty deeper than the others, so players are less prone to bottoming out in the cup.
 
This is a very effective lead mouthpiece that will provide a stong upper register combined with a low end that lacks the nasal sound quality often produced by extra shallow cups.

Description
 
The 65LV is similar to the 65ES, but with a small double cup. It falls between the 65ES and 65S, and like other Wedge LV cups has an open blow that feels similar to a larger, #25 throat.
 
It is a good substitute for any of the mouthpieces in this class, especially when a better low range is desired.

The 65S is an excellent lead mouthpiece for a player using a medium diameter and shallow cup. It is slightly deeper than the Schilke A cup or GR S cup and has a better low register. The S cup is very close to a GR MS cup.
 
Most players will find that the upper register is still better than conventional mouthpieces, even thought it has a slightly deeper cup.
 
The 65S also works well as a piccolo trumpet when players prefer a brighter sound with more projection.

The Bach 10-1/2C and similar mouthpieces are underappreciated options for young beginners, and are a much better choice than the much deeper 7C.
 
This group of mouthpieces has a cup depth similar to a Bach 3C with a smaller diameter better suited for young players. The 65MV is one of our top 10 mouthpieces for this reason.
 
Being the little brother of the Bach 3C it is a very versatile choice for all round playing. It also works very well for piccolo trumpet.

The 65MDV is similar to a Bach 10-1/2C, but with a deeper cup. You can also think of it as a scaled down Bach 5C.
 
It is and excellent choice for an orchestral mouthpiece when a slightly smaller diameter rim is desired. The cup depth of the 65MDV maintains a dark sound despite the medium sized diameter.

The 65RT is the little brother of the 66RT and 67RT (See descriptions below). It is designed for the player who wants a sound darker than the conventional "C" cup. The .65 inch ID is an efficient diameter, allowing players to use the deeper cup without sacrificing range and endurance.
 
This is a great choice for rotary trumpet or for a piston valve trumpet when an extra dark sound is preferred.
 
The 65RT also works extremely well for jazz players looking for a darker sound, while providing very smooth transitions from note to note.

The Schilke 14A4A and 13A4A are very popular lead mouthpieces. Many players do not realize that the 13A4A actually has a significantly shallower cup than the 14A4A. For some players the smaller diameter and shallower cup of the 13A4A are just too restrictive.
 
The Wedge 66ES combines some of the characteristics of these two mouthpieces, with an ID similar to the larger 14A4A and a cup depth closer to, but not quite as shallow as the 13A4A. This produces a great lead mouthpiece for players who like the extra shallow cup of the 13A4A but who need a little more room in the rim.
 
Like all Wedge shallow mouthpieces, the 66ES has a much better sounding low register compared to similar conventional mouthpieces. When you play below the staff your neighbours will not think you are accosting waterfowl.
 
This is the largest diameter we offer in the extra shallow cup depth.

The 66LV shares common characteristics with all of the Wedge LV mouthpieces. The shallow upper cup and small second cup provide great upper register support with a remarkable, fat sound below the staff.
 
The upper cup has a low alpha angle to prevent bottoming out. Total cup volume is similar to the Wedge S cup.
 
LV cups feel very open. This is a great choice for lead trumpet and also for Piccolo trumpet for a brilliant upper register combined with a great low register as well.

This family of mouthpieces is the most popular of all sizes, simply because it works well for many players in many playing situations.
 
This size is the "multitool" of mouthpieces as it is best suited for playing in concert band, wind ensemble, brass quintet, worship groups, jazz, pit and pops settings, and almost anywhere else.
 
Although not a typical choice for an orchestral setting or for playing lead, the Bach 3C, and similar mouthpieces, can also be made to work for that type of playing.
 
Keep in mind that this particular "C" cup is not quite as deep as the Bach 1-1/2C, 5C, or 7 C cup. It is the most shallow of all Bach C cups.
 
The Chuck Findley 66MV plays like a really great 3C, but with a very slightly smaller diameter. Like other mouthpieces in the 3C family, it is the ultimate all-around mouthpiece for the middle ground of playing styles.

The Bach 5C, Schilke 14, and similar mouthpieces are a slightly smaller alternative to the typical "orchestral" Bach 1-1/2C, .67 inch ID sizes. The more efficient .66 inch rim gives most players better endurance than the .67 inch rim, while keeping a similar, dark, if slightly more compact sound.
 
The Wabrburton 4MD cup depth is actually between the Wedge MDV and MV.
 
The 66MDV is the Wedge version of those mouthpieces. It is an excellent choice for an advanced amatuer player or professional who wants the classic "orchestral" sound, but who has challenges with range and endurance.
It's also and excellent choice for advancing students who are not yet ready for the 67MDV.

The 665MV, along with the 66MV, is the Wedge most similar to the Bach 3C. It has a cup depth that is slightly shallower than the Bach 1.5C and Bach 5C, and B7C. It therefore has a slightly brighter sound, and provides more support in the upper register than the 1.5C/5C and Wedge 665MDV.
 
The 665MV is a great all round mouthpiece for a wide variety of applications. The sound is a bit bright for an orchestral setting, depending on the player's natural sound and sound preferences. It is very well suited to situations where a bit more efficiency and projection is desired, such as concert band, brass quintet, marching, and jazz band.

There is a gap in the Bach sizing between the 1.5C and 5C. The Bach 3C has an intermediate rim diameter, but a shallower cup, and the Bach 3B has a more V shaped cup.
 
The 665MDV is intended to fill that gap with an ID similar to a Bach 3C and a cup depth similar to a Bach 1.5C and 5C.
 
The 665MDV is a great choice for a player wanting a sound similar to a Bach 1.5C, but with a slightly smaller, more efficient inner diameter.

The 67MV fills the need for a large diameter mouthpiece with a medium cup depth.
 
The MV cup evolved from our M cup, and has a modified V shape at the bottom of cup leading into throat. This produces a slightly darker sound without sacrificing range.
 
This is the shallowest stock cup we make in the .67 inch diameter. A 67S, a .67 rim with a shallow cup, is available by special order.

The Bach 1-1/2C, Schilke 15-17 series, Yamaha 16C4, and similar mouthpieces, have historically set the standard for orchestral mouthpieces.
 
The Wedge 67MDV is designed to fill the same need for a dark, orchestral sound, but with all of the advantages of the Wedge design.
 
Most players will be fine with the usual 27 throat. Strong players with good breath support will often prefer the bigger, broader sound and reduced resistance of the 25 throat.

Although the Bach 1-1/2C and similar mouthpieces are the typical choice for a relatively dark "legit " or jazz sound, some players prefer the extra darkness of a deeper cup. The Bach 1-1/2B, Schilke 17D4, and Yamaha 16D are typical choices to meet that need.
 
The Wedge 67RT is our version of that deeper cup style. It is modelled after a German rotary trumpet mouthpiece design.
 
The 67RT is very efficient despite the modified V shape the cup. It produces a well-balanced, rich sound in rotary or piston valve trumpets, with ample brilliance at loud dynamics.

Some players prefer a larger mouthpiece than the typical Bach 1-1/2C, choosing instead a Bach 1C, Schilke 18, 20, etc. The 68MDV is similarly designed for those players who find that the .67 diameter rim just does not provide enough room.
